FAQs about hotels in Santiago de Compostela

A Valuable City with Rich History

The city of Santiago de Compostela is the capital of Galicia and the place where the Apostle St. James is buried. The city’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its distinguished old monuments around the Cathedral and the tomb of St. James.

Made of granite, the spectacular Baroque facade of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela features massive bell towers and statues of St. James. The Obradoiro facade of the Cathedral is one of the most exceptional examples of the Spanish Baroque period.

Surrounded by magnificent buildings, the monumental square of Plaza do Obradoiro is one of the most historic squares in the world and the heart of Santiago. You can stay in one of the hotels, guesthouses or apartments Booking.com has near this majestic square.

The final destination of the medieval pilgrimage route El Camino de Santiago, this city is the best place to enjoy fresh fish and traditional Galician bread. Galicia is the seafood capital of Spain and the right place to savor Salpicón de Mar (seafood salad) and Pulpo á Feira (octopus cooked with salt).

The Christian pilgrimage route of the Way of St. James passes by Santiago de Compostela Airport, just 9 miles away from Galicia’s capital.

We did a round trip starting in Madrid, further to Portugal and ended in Galicia. We could not have done better. Santiago de Compostela is a perfect starting point to explore Galicia and we greatly enjoyed staying there. Please note, that Santiago is the target of many pilgrims seeking spiritual inspiration. We visited Santiago in December - where only a few tourists and pilgrims were seen.

It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance.

It is a great way to test your resilience, endurance. Discovered lots of various scenaries, cultural differences with my own. Imporved my Spanish. Pilgrims are usually very kind and helpful. I did not like the number of pilgrims, too many doing just the last 100km and forcing us to book too long in advance to ensure we have space in albergues. In Galicia expect rain! Great life experience

It's a great experience architecturally, archeologically, spiritually, and gastronomically. It is one of my favorite places in the world. You can just walk around the old city and see new things all the time. If you have a chance or a calling to walk the Camino de Santiago, I highly recommend doing it!

Santiago is a cultured city with a lot of life. THe University population keeps the city vibrant and lively. The cultural scene is tempered by the religious pilgrimage (now also an ADVENTURE destination). The local Galician food fare is delicious and needs to be tried.

We stayed for 2 nights during our 3-week trip to Spain. The apartment itself was adequate for our needs. Lots of room with 2 bedrooms. We used the second bedroom to store our luggage. We appreciated the washing machine. The kitchen is nicely outfitted but we just used the refrigerator. Lots of windows and daylight. The space was good for the two of us - room to spread out. The location was excellent - we were able to walk to everything. We did have a car and there was a parking garage just a few minutes away. All very convenient.

Could not get a better location in Santiago. Just in city center and a few minutes walk from the main square and the old center. A lot of bars and restaurants around. I sad at the balcony and enjoyed it all. Good room with a nice bed. Bathroom big with all you need. Best of it all was simply the view from my room. I will not look for a different place next time in Santiago. Check in was easy and they have a no-key system which makes it super easy to enter the place and your room without remembering a key or card.

No need to use any form of transport as everything worth seeing is within easy walking distance. Personal is amazing, doing everything possible to accommodate guests ‘ needs and make them feel at ease. Breakfast is basic but satisfying for the price paid. A good valve for money. The hotel is in an ideal location in the heart of the city near the Cathedral. Our room was clean comfortable and very large with a bay window sitting area. Beds are very comfortable and the bathroom large too. Staff were friendly and helpful - letting us leave our luggage before we even checked in. They also helped us secure a very early taxi to the airport. The breakfast is wonderful with an assortment of breads, yogurt, cheese, ham and lovely tarta de Santiago.

Fabulous location right in the main plaza opposite the cathedral. Beautiful old building completely renovated and the best staff ever. Sandra at reception was amazing she went out of her way to make our stay memorable for all the right reasons. I have been to Santiago de Compostela and stayed in many places including the Parador and San Francisco but the room at the Obradoiro was the best. Thank you Sandra for a wonderful stay.

Everything was perfect. Even though we arrived early and we couldn't checkin, Pablo allowed us to leave our luggage at a different place, and then he was SO helpful with it!!!! He went above and beyond with everything. We asked him several questions during our stay in Santiago and he always responded and gave us great tips. Staying at his place was the best of all the other places we stayed at during our trip for Spain.

The location was fantastic - just off the central area. The owner has put a lot of effort into sound reduction. We slept peacefully through the loudest celebration of the year with a wild street party just around the corner. The owner was very helpful. The kitchen is very modern. Best washer in Spain. Wi-Fi was good. One of the reviews mentioned a loud bar below. We only saw a quiet breakfast place - recommend.

This is the third time staying here at the end of the Camino and it has always provided great service by the girls at the front desk. The hotel is a little older but is a great value compared to some other hotels we have stayed at. As long as we will be returning to Santiago we will continue to stay there and encourage others to try it, you will not regret it. It is a wonderful place to stay!
