Opatija is a lively and popular tourist destination which offers sandy beaches and some of the most stunning coastal views in Croatia, evident while strolling along its lovely seaside promenade Lungomare.
The town’s streets and pristine coastline are lined with bright and colourful pastel-coloured buildings, restaurants, bars, cafés and hotels.
If your plan is to go sightseeing, be sure to visit Opatija’s famous picture-postcard statue the Maiden with the Seagull, situated beside Juraj Šporer Art Pavilion. Other must-see sights are the Old City and the 14th-century Abbey of Saint James.
Neighbouring Opatija is Rijeka, Croatia’s historic and principal seaport town and a popular spot for a day trip. Rijeka’s most famous landmarks are the Maritime and History Museum of the Croatian Littoral and the 13th-century Trsat Castle, which offers magnificent city and coastal views.

It’s a beautiful city with lots of Austrian style influenced buildings. I would not recommend it during the summer because for swimming in the sea it is not the best place to go to, as there are not really nice beaches. But for off season it is very nice.

Tourist Hotspot so most cafés/restaurants/bars are overpriced, often ridiculously so for the level of service. Also too crowded, even in off season. One exception: Pizzeria Roko, go eat there!

Well Opatia is an old tourist town.
Well Opatia is an old tourist town. It does show its age and set of problems like all tourist towns. But still retains its charm and different eras that build it.
A wonderful place to walk enjoy coffee on some terrace or a perfect sea food meal.
A smart home base point for wider exploration of Kvarner region, its hills and mountains as its islands.

Opatija is the Monaco of Isrtria.
Opatija is the Monaco of Isrtria. Beutiful city with nice beaches. It worth to visit Medveja beach, and Moscenicka Draga beach as well, the water is more clean than the main beaches in Opatija.
For food and beverage, I suggest to try Cafe Imperial, Roko, but the absolut winner is Valle Losca Tavern, where you can have the most delicious dinner in Opatija. Both of them, they need reservation!
If you are looking for an active nightlife with parties, I do not recommend, there was only two bars, Summer Garden (close at 12PM, 1AM on Friday Saturday), and Colosseum Beach Bar, but they also close at 1AM. Pula, Crikvenica, or Porec can be better options for partying.

The city is nice, has some old houses as well as modern hotels, there are palm trees, rosemary and bayleaf bushes as fences.
A lot of tourist go there, so the local business owners speak at least English.
Since the seaside is made of big rocks, there are only created beaches which are crowded, but the little bays are better, just wear beach loafers because of the rocks and sea urchins. There is a small sandy beach for kids at the north end of Plaža Slatina.
There are no simple just-buy-and-go streetfood options, only sit-down-and-order places (except if you want popcorn, fried corn or ice cream), which is time consuming and you have to prepare in advance if you are with kids.
The sea water is clear, good for snorkeling, and there are glass bottom boats to see the fishes.

Opatija is the jewel of the Adriatic coast!!
Opatija is the jewel of the Adriatic coast!! Many hotels are more than 100 years old and are marvel on their own! We could wholeheartedly recommend Opatija to anyone who likes good old charm and high end quality hotels with price marks less than many other hotels in Europe!!
Excellent location, easily accessible. Parking outside the street is simple, but you can park inside if you wish. The sea, the promenade and Opatija centre are all in walking distance. The apartment is practical with a nicely equipped kitchen and cosy living room/bedroom. The terrace of our room was mesmerizing. The garden is lush, must be a real cool place on summer (we came to catch a bit of Opatija Advent). The hospitality and atmosphere are outstanding, we truly felt welcome and like at home here. Thanks!
This apartment is 5 minutes on foot from the ocean and a pretty nice beach also from Opatija's promenade, although it is on a hill so when you go back it's 10 minutes because you have to climb. A Lidl is super close as well. We really liked the bathtub also. A apartment is small but it was enough for us (3 girls). The sunbeds were nice as well and the reserved parking spot and also the cute cat. In conclusion it is a pretty good place to stay in Opatija, I would come back for sure.
The hotel location is fantastic. The balcony allowed for hours of soaking up the atmosphere of watching people walking around the promenade or relaxing looking out over the beautiful Adriatic.
I was particularly impressed with the duty clerk who went out of her way to make our stay hassle free. She was very friendly and able to make decisions herself.
On site parking took away one of the most frustrating aspects of staying in the centre of Opatija.
The location was the main reason we booked this apartment. It is very central with easy access on foot to the main attractions in Opatija. The apartment is only five minutes walk from a safe swimming area. In fact, we met the owner, Janja, in for her morning swim on one occasion. Car parking is beside the apartment entrance, if required, but must be arranged in advance. Janja and Boris were lovely hosts and made us feel very welcome.
we rented this place from the booking page directly... we didn't see that check in is only until 20:00.
when I saw it I called the phone number indicated in the booking to inform about the situation.
the man who answered us ... said that there is no problem, as we live in the same house, you can call us when you arrive.
at 20:45 a lady called and said that she was going to cancel the reservation as they only work until 20:00.
The location is excellent. The hotel is clean and the staff helpful. Breakfast and room service were on point.
We had some initial problem with parking, which the hotel didn't have at the moment, but the staff went out of their way to sort it out right away. They also prepared cakes for my husband's birthday early in the morning. So special thanks to Mrs. Ljubica and young lady at the front desk.
We are very satisfied. Our room was very clean and cleanings war very nice. Food was also very good, it was very good choice of food and deserts.
We also had room service one morning, it was more than perfect. I can only recommend. Unfortunately only the parking is not at any moment available but its general problem in Opatija but its has many parking places in Hotel Opatija.
It was my first time in Opatija and I do not speak Croatian language. Upon arrival, the lady and the gentleman who received me were extraordinary helpful and friendly, they spoke perfect German. They were great hosts and recommended very good places to eat. I definitely will stay there another time. The location cannot be better, it is in the very center of Opatija.
The location of the hotel is perfect, with stunning sea views from the rooms, creating a serene and tranquil atmosphere for your stay. The panoramic views of the city from the pool and spa area are simply breathtaking and add an extra layer of relaxation to your experience. You can take a dip in the pool or relax in the hot tub while enjoying the stunning views.
Amazing hotel with great, modern and spacey rooms. Whatever you do, get the sea view room, it is worth it! The spa is really great and the breakfast is an experience of its own. You can get everything, from amazing croatian cheese’s and jams to pancakes made right in front of you. The staff was also wonderful and we will be coming back.
Great location in a wonderfully furnished house with great taste and style. Comfortable bed in a beautiful bedroom with stunning views overseeing the bay. This short stay in the villa was the highlight of my vacation in Croatia.
Excellent location and excellent place to stay. Great food, private beach, and excellent staff service with a special mention of the reception guy that did our booking. We will be back & so will our friends.
Great and rich breakfast, amazing sea view from the room, very friendly and helpful staff, the room and all the public place in the hotel were clean, private beach. Highly recommended!!!
