Not a tourist spot at all, would only go for work and then rather not. Incredibly hot (over 44°C on a few days). Security better than in the past, but not safe to walk alone, particularly after dark. Taxis available, better value to hire a car & driver. Colleague who knows the country well took me to L'Escale, overlooking the river, for excellent Sunday fish lunch. Otherwise only went to the Grand Café as was too tired to go out in the evenings. Visited the craft shop at the Rock Club, got some great honey & jam. Also bought a basket of wooden fruit, very common there, from a market stall - got fined 5000 francs at the airport because I didn't have a "certificat de provenance" and was accused of smuggling "objets d'art" !
