On this two-part tour, you’ll explore the highlights of Johannesburg – South Africa’s economic hub – and Soweto, the country’s largest informal settlement. In the city, you’ll visit a heritage site connected to the history of Apartheid and South Africa’s democracy. You’ll drive through the Braamfontein area and over the Nelson Mandela Bridge before visiting the iconic FNB stadium – Africa’s biggest stadium.
In Soweto, you’ll dive into African culture and history in the diverse and eclectic township. You’ll see the contrasts between informal dwellings, and impressive mansions in the more built-up areas. You’ll visit the iconic Vilakazi Street, where Mandela and Desmond Tutu once lived – the only street in the world that’s been home to two Noble Peace Prize winners. Your final stop will be the Hector Peterson Museum dedicated to the 1976 tragedy when protesting schoolchildren were shot by Apartheid security forces.
