Understated, but clean, modern, quiet, and comfortable hotel close to Basel Bad station. Couple of minutes from a tram hub on Messeplatz and walkable distance from the Old Town, otherwise with the Basel card provided for free it is connected to anywhere one might wish to go. Excellent location next to the railwaystation and tram intersection, very easy to get all over Basel. Feeling of a family run establishment different from the chain hotels. Lovely breakfast room. Very good breakfast to which you did not get bored over a weeks stay. Everything was of prime quality. Nice little sauna where a bonus feature was absolutely correct instructions how to take a sauna bath. I am a Finn knowing this for sure! Our room was on the 4th floor inner court side so very quiet, could keep the windows open. Friendly and helpfull staf.

FAQs about hotels in Basel

Switzerland Through the Ages

At the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany and France, Basel is an eclectic mix of historic and modern, tranquil and vibrant, with Swiss cleanliness and efficiency thrown in for good measure.

Augusta Raurica, on the outskirts, has a well-preserved Roman theater, while the Old Town is a museum of medieval buildings. The Renaissance Town Hall looks down on Marktplatz’s daily market, while the red sandstone and colorful tiles of the Münster were reconstructed in the 19th century. Bringing it right up to date are the modern creations of city residents Herzog & De Meuron, designers of London’s Tate Modern.

When you’ve finished exploring this architectural heritage, there are still plenty of things to do in Basel. The city’s fine art museum is the world’s oldest art collection, and the zoo is the oldest and largest in Switzerland. Remember to bring plenty of Swiss francs for the shopping mile along Clarastrasse and Freiestrasse.

The Basel accommodations on Booking.com range from hotels in Grossbasel to B&Bs in Kleinbasel, home to the nightlife. If you’re flying into Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport in February or March, you might just catch Fasnacht, Switzerland’s biggest carnival. You’ll have to get up early to catch the 4 am start, though!

The tram system in Basel is extensive and impressive.

The tram system in Basel is extensive and impressive. You can get anywhere in the city within minutes. Basel Old Town is beautiful and not to be missed; many buildings in continuous use date back to the 1300s. And look for the cute little ferry across the Rhine that uses the river current for its power; worth the 2₣ fare.

A great city with plenty to see and do all within walking distance. The Basel Pass, issued when checking in at the hotel, provides free travel on the excellent public transport system as well as discounts at many museums and attractions in the city and surrounding area. Basel's location on the borders with France and Germany means it is easy to visit the Alsace region and the Black Forest and the Swiss Alps and lake are easily reached by train or car.

Perfect for a 1-2 day visit. If you consider going, definitely consider staying in an accommodation within Basel itself, because you get a Basel card which gives you free public transport and half off on almost every interesting attraction in the city. My favorite was definitely the zoo.

Great breakfast and the price for Switzerland is amazing for what you get at this hostel. The concept of Switzerland where you get a free travel card is a very big plus: with the Basel Card that was provided it was easy (and free) to use public transport in the city. Within 10 minutes at the citycentre and a busstop in front of the hostel accommodates you to the nearby trainstation.

BED!!! There was a free option to get a double bed for one person! Loved it. I liked the room setup too. The location was comfortable and easy to access via various lines of trams available. Definitely met my expectations with its lower prices compared to rest of Switzerland. Free coffee and tea whenever was nice.
