Lucerne is famous for it's lake, and for the old town part. We took the 1 hour boat ride and so got an impression of the lake, and did the walk around the old town.
We were touring around Switzerland, and to be honest, the old town in Bern was much, much better than Lucerne, and there are many other Swiss lakes that are more beautiful, quieter, and less touristy.
As you can guess, our feeling of Lucerne was that it was okay, but if you are short of time I would visit Bern, Wengen or Geneva.

Luzern is a relax and peaceful city to visit.
Luzern is a relax and peaceful city to visit. The weather was cloudy, and I didn't have a chance to visit Mt Rigi or Pilatus. But I took a cruise ride of the lake. I was a peaceful trip in Luzern. I love the Max Chocolate and a MUST try chocolate.

We only stayed one night in the city.
We only stayed one night in the city. There would be more to do but we felt we had done a fair amount in the 24 hours we were there. Any longer and would have been nice to go swimming in the lake. We took the Gotthard Panoramic Express onwards to Lugano which included a boat ride down the lake which was stunning to I would recommend that as an activity.

What a beautiful city this is!
What a beautiful city this is! Well worth spending a few days exploring. The old town is charming. We enjoyed walking along the river and exploring the beautiful old bridges, and took a short boat trip across the lake. We went to Pilatus Kulm via the world's steepest cogwheel train and down on a series of cable cars, but would recommend doing this round the other way, as it will be quieter and just as much fun! Despite the summit being surrounded by cloud and drizzle, this was still an enjoyable experience. We would defiitely recommend the city and hope to return one day.

Lucerne is a lovely city in an outstanding setting.
Lucerne is a lovely city in an outstanding setting. It's clearly on the tourist trail and was surprisingly busy in May. It's expensive though - expect to pay £50+ per head for an average meal.
We did the golden tour to Mt. Pilatus with lake trip which we would highly recommend given even moderate visibility (but definitely not in cloud).

The Luzern is a beautiful city, must try boat trip to reach to the main attractions like Mount Pilatus, Mount Rigi, the boat ride give beautiful views. you don't need any reservation for boats, train but advisable to book tickets for attractions in advance to save lot of time and able to cover most areas. There are plenty of restaurants in the city as per the cuisine choice.

We had a very smooth and memorable stay all thanks to the systemised check and check out and a very a clean well amenitized property. Strongly recommended !
The whole hotel is about how to solve everything with the least amount of money. the room is just right, the breakfast is just enough to get something, but don't complain too much. It's Lucerne, of course, is quite expensive
The location is great- just 5 min from Lucerne train station but facing the lake so it felt less busy. The rooms are very comfortable. The hotel arranged an extra bed for us as requested.
This hotel is exceptionally good and close to everything in Lucerne. Breakfast was good also. The staff were really friendly and helpful and we could not fault anything in this hotel.
