This is bare-bones. Clean, excellent shampoo, conditioner & toiletries. The safe was not large enough for a 15" laptop, however it was fine for small valuables. There was not a desk, so I made do sitting on a bench with the laptop on the bed. The fridge was actually cold, unlike most hotels. Like other Italian hotels, the thermostat was underpowered -- could not cool the room well.

Ferrara was a haven for the arts during the Renaissance and much of this is still evident today. The powerful Este family held court in the multi-turreted Estense Castle, protected by a moat and drawbridge, and they were illustrious patrons of artists and authors.
Bellini, Piero della Francesca and Titian all perfected their strokes here, and the university houses parts of Ludovico Ariosto’s original manuscript of his epic poem – Orlando Furioso – containing allegorical references to his sponsors. The family is also depicted in Palazzo Schifanoia’s detailed fresoces, and the Palazzo dei Diamanti gallery displays works commissioned from the School of Ferrara.
Some Este tombs are in Corpus Domini Monastery and another is in the ornate cathedral whose three-gabled façade overlooks the crenellated town hall. Both line Piazza di Trento e Trieste, the main square where locals come to socialise. Another popular square is green Piazza Ariostea.
The Este strengthened their position through marriage alliances with the influential Borgia, Medici and Gonzaga families, but they didn’t have it all their own way. Ferrara’s well-preserved city walls were built for defence, and ardent opponent of the Renaissance, Savonarola, was born in this UNESCO World Heritage city.
Surrounding cobbled streets house many luxury Ferrara hotels, cheap apartments and B&Bs near the train station, available on Booking.com.

Lots of interesting places to visit, however, I was only there for one day on a Sunday and it was a little bit busy so I didn't have time to see as much as I would have liked. I hope to return one day as it was probably my favourite city out of the places I visited on this trip.

Ferrara is one of the unsung places in Italy, but very nice, a lot too see, and a local population who genuinely wish you to enjoy their city. Some must visits: The castle, palazzo diamantini, palazzo schivanoia, the city walls, the cathedral.

Lovely place to walk or cycle around and pick up the real italian small city vibe. With limited traffic in the centre, Ferrara felt very safe. Some great restaurants and cafe's but not the best for a shopping trip.

It is an interesting town full of late medieval and early Renaissance architecture. If you are interested in history, you will love exploring Ferrara. Also, compared to Florence or Venice it is quiet and unexpensive, while offering great places to go and good food, too (we ate at Leon d'Oro very close to our hotel and we loved both their food and their wine).

A beautiful, relatively intact late medieval city built almost entirely of brick. The castle is Disney-esque, the cathedral and adjacent piazza are charming. Much of the city centre is pedestrianised so travelling around is easy, but there are a lot of bicycles so care is needed. Lots of nice places to eat and drink.

The location of this hotel is perfect for visiting all the sites in Ferrara. The rooms at the front overlook the main square. The view from the terrace used for breakfast and evening drinks was superb. The young lady on reception when we arrived was very welcoming and informative but reception is not often occupied.
We used the hotel for an overnight stay on our way to Tuscany, mainly because of its location at the highway exit and a relatively convenient location for visiting the city center. The hotel was clean, modern, comfortable and quiet. Ferrara surprised me with the number of monuments, it is a very nice city.
Very nice small hotel 100 m from the Ferrara castle. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and friendly!! The room was tidy well equipped wifi was OK. Breakfasts were very tasty. Air-conditioning working fine. I highly recommend
I travel to Ferrara occasionally for work and I always choose this hotel for my stay. The rooms are very clean and spacious and the Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
