I have been visiting it for 30 years it's like my second home. I always try new restaurants and pubs. I love bus hopping as my mobility is not good. The 508 over Kirkstone pass is my favourite. I found a little Italian restaurant in Windermere call San Pietro the staff and food were excellent. Can't believe I haven't spotted it before. We be back in a few months time.

Also walked up to Brant Fell. A short but very steep hike. Amazing views over the lake and towards the mountains.

We've been to Bowness on Windermere quite a few times over the years and always stayed at Storrs Hall hotel. We decided to stay at a different hotel on our last trip which came right up to our expectations. Bowness on Windermere is always a nice place to visit and full of good restaurants.
We tried a Thai restaurant for an evening meal on main street. Excellent as was our visit.

The lake view from the room was excellent.
The lake view from the room was excellent. The food was good, service at dinner a wait to be served 1-30 minutes plus, the worst service anywhere.
£20 per night car park excessive I sliver of bacon one egg & a sausage plus a miniscule milk jug for coffee ranks as below par.
Sadly will give this chain of hotels a miss in the future.

Bowness is a very touristy town full of gift shop, bars and restaurants. While in the summer it might be too commercial for many, off-season we found it just right, bustling but not too crowded.
While commercialised it does retain a Lake District charm and it's not hard to find good bars and restaurants, and bus and ferry transport is plentiful.
