We have been visiting Durham and the surrounding area for...
We have been visiting Durham and the surrounding area for the past four years and we love the City. Apart from a couple of months in the summer it is always full of students from the various Colleges related to the University but the place itself is so full of history. There are so many places in and around Durham that are worth a visit but I would suggest that the main one is the beautiful Cathedral. We love walking and it is probably the easiest way to get around the central area of the City and enjoy the river walks etc. Be warned Durham is very hilly and some of the walking areas you might find challenging if you are not used to hills. There are many good restaurants in Durham but I just want to mention a placed called Vennels Cafe. A great place to visit with lots to see and do. The Cellar Door restaurant and Rudy's pizza place were our favourite places to eat. There is a plethora of eateries to suit every taste. The Cathedral is beautiful and there are lots of shops to browse around. It was very easy to get around and there's a great Uber service when you tire of walking up the hills!
