The Capital of the North

With an industrial past and a modern outlook, the complex fabric of Manchester is interlaced with interesting museums, English pubs and shopping centres.

Dash straight into the luxurious Selfridges and Triangle departments stores before checking out the old-English charm of the Shambles.

Hadn't been to Manchester for over 30 years and was going on this occasion to see Iron Maiden at co-op live. The place has greatly improved and has some very pleasant bits like the canal path walk which felt safe and a good clean transport system. Didn't bother with the shops chatted to a homeless gentleman who was lovely.

Manchester is a lovely and vibrant city that truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment you arrive, there's a unique energy — a mix of history, culture, and modern life all in one place. One of the highlights for me was the beautiful Central Library — a stunning building both inside and out, perfect for architecture lovers or anyone who appreciates a peaceful, inspiring atmosphere. I also enjoyed exploring the castle area and historical landmarks, which give you a real sense of the city's rich heritage. The city centre is bustling with life, full of shops, cafés, and bars, and everything is within walking distance. Whether you're there for a cultural visit, shopping, or just soaking up the city vibe, Manchester has something to offer everyone. Highly recommended for a weekend getaway or city break!

What we saw of Manchester exceeded my expectations.

What we saw of Manchester exceeded my expectations. The media city is nicely developed with an excellent choice of restaurants and a convenient Co-op. (We ate at the Banana Tree) The tram facility was excellent and gave easy access straight to the Trafford Centre. There was lots to do and we will definitely be back to the area.

An interesting mix of old and new. Very busy, a place "on the up", but still some way to go. The trams are great, the parking at the Arndale Centre not so much. Shabby and smart, rich and poor, a northern powerhouse, or soon will be.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn at Mediacity because it was close to the tramline that enabled us to get to the AO Arena to see a concert . The tram system was a really good way for transport around the city.

A city buzzing with atmosphere and super friendly people. The choice of restaurants and eateries is truly amazing. Tram system cheap and very effective. Free bus in city centre is a real bonus. Just so much to do and see. Why go further south when you have a perfect place for a city break in Manchester.

This is a stunning hotel from the moment you walk through the door. The decor and attention to detail have been excelled and you can tell everything is bespoke. Every little detail has been thought out even down to a glass of champagne while check in is arranged. Its a beautiful space for any interior lover and the furniture and spaces are stunning. The staff here are probably the best I’ve had in any city centre hotel. If you get the chance to stay it’s a must do in Manchester.

The Hotel is about 4 minutes walk to the Shudehill Interchange Bus Station. Our check in was fast. The Staff were courteous. The hotel is about 5-8 minutes walk to the Manchester City Centre. The Breakfast was Good. Our room was upgraded on the second day when we complained about the Sofa bed that was not good.
