Our flight was delayed so we arrived after the restaurant closed. The owner and his wife made us welcome, even though they had closed for the night. They very kindly opened a bottle of wine and made us a wonderful dinner. Throughout the stay their hospitality was amazing. The owner would not let us walk to the bus stop, instead he very kindly drove us all the way to Sidmouth in his own car! They really could not have done more for us!

Breakfast was good quality. Dining room was clean. The staff were very helpful, happy & friendly. We felt like we were really looked after. The hotel was really lovely & in a great position. The beds were amazingly comfortable & the room/bathroom were a good size. An old building with beautiful original features but also updated with USB & computer points in the rooms & electric car charging point in the car park. Brilliant!!

The staff was very very helpful. They gave us a room with an excellent view along the Esplanade. The breakfast was really good. We also liked that it was shoulder season and had fewer people. It was really nice walking into town and along the coastal trail.

Our hotel, The Riviera, was excellent as the staff were fantastic which was the icing on the cake, but we also liked the town with interesting little shops. In addition we enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the gardens on the cliff top
It was wonderful to look out at the sea with all the people doing different activities from surfing, swimming, boating as well as parascending and just having good family fun.
One evening we went for a meal in a pub close to Sidmouth and again the people were friendly and accommodating.
All in all we had a great time and definitely plan to go to Sidmouth again.

Sidmouth is great for elderly travellers.
Sidmouth is great for elderly travellers. It has a unique charm. Busy during the day but dead after 7.00pm. Little to attract younger travellers.
Would recommend the Swan Inn for reasonably priced food, friendly service and a good menu choice

Sidmouth is a nice, quaint town, in a very nice area. Not too much to do in the town, but it is a good place to stay, and for visiting other locations fairly close by - use it as a base and look around the area.

Sidmouth has a selection of good cafes, restaurants and shops all within walking distance. A pebble beach and a number of walking trails to choose from. There is a good tourist information centre with friendly staff who are more than happy to give you informationof Sidmouth and the surrounding area. There is a good bus service to other areas close by such as Beer, Seaton, Branscombe etc. Nice friendly place with all you should need for your stay. The Anchor Inn for good food served all day (in the centre), The Volunteer for a good Sunday lunch, The Mustard Seed (Community Centre) with a very resonable selection of food is high recommended.

Woodlands Hotel is a real gem! From the warm reception at check-in, to the equally warm goodbye, the entire experience was positive. Clean room (everything worked), spacious public areas (conservatory, plus a huge and exceptionally well-maintained garden, with a stream running through it for added character) and a breakfast of freshly-cooked, quality ingredients, served piping hot. Sidmouth isn’t an area that features frequently on our travels, but Woodlands Hotel makes us wish it did! We’d happily stay here again.
The location - right on Sidmouth seafront - was excellent. We had stunning sea views from our third floor balcony and we loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves and waking up to amazing views. The breakfasts were filling and delicious- they definitely set us up for the day! Staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Location of the hotel was excellent for exploring Sidmouth. The centre was just a 5 minute walk via a very pleasant route.
The grounds were extremely well maintained and even better as the sun was shining.
Plenty of parking
Friendly staff
Lovely breakfast
Most welcoming little hotel in a superb position for visiting Sidmouth. Excellent breakfast and the one evening meal we had was good. We felt it was good value for money particularly in August
