Free fireworks on Saturday nights during the autumn weeks are brilliant. Other seaside towns should take note. Brought in families for the evening. Found a quite part of Southend and was amazed by the stunning Edwardian/ Victorian architecture. Rossi ice cream is a must 😋

Visiting the world famous pier though a bit blowy even recreated the Minder scene with Arthur Daley tapping his pocket as as he realises he has left his wallet at the end of the pier and starts the 1.333 mile walk back

The hotel was away from the very noisy part of the water front but still very busy. We were there for a friend's celebration event and it was very convenient for that. The weather was good and morning walks in the beach or on the sidewalk were available, We are elderly s.o did not make use of the beach but others will

Excellent Attraction with a Pier Railway.

Excellent Attraction with a Pier Railway. You can take a train to the sea up to 1.3 miles. What an extraordinary train ride. Once at the sea, you can roam, visit restaurants, take pictures or relax by the sea. There are plenty of seating and spots. The Pier Adventures villages have a lot of rides and activities to keep you engaged. It has a long beach where you can relax in the sunshine. Many casinos and entertainment options are on the other side of the road.

Loved the open tour bus we took it to Leigh on sea and enjoyed seafood lunch at Osbournes and onto Leigh’s seafront that disappeared fast but worth the visit. Even bumped into an old school friend and her newborn and husband a very small world indeed. And of course daily annual pass sessions at Adventure Island. We had B&B lunch was light and dinner was local restaurants there’s Nandos Wimpy Kfc McD’S BK Taco Bell etc.

I cannot judge S-o-S objectively because I was born there...

I cannot judge S-o-S objectively because I was born there and spent the first 25 years of my life there. But obviously I liked it enough to go back for a holiday. Top tips are walking the pier (longest pleasure pier in the world at 2 km) visiting Hadleigh castle, seafront walks and swimming (25 degrees C in the water by late afternoons) and walking in Cherry Orchard country park. The C2C trains are a great way to get between Benfleet and Shoebury (and the six stations in between) good prices off-peak, frequent, clean, punctual, and the Great Anglia trains from Southend Victoria make it quick and easy to get to lovely Rochford and Hockley with its woodlands. Belfairs Woods are great for nature and laughing at the best efforts of the golfers, Chalkwell Park and Southchurch Park to watch the cricket, and a bit of history at Prittlewell Priory. I hope to return next summer and stay at Ilfracombe House Hotel again, if possible. And the town (which has two looks, i.e. tide high, and tide low, when the water's edge is 1,5 km away, making it a wonder of the world) is just 45 mins away from London.

The Moorings location is on the seafront, some 15 to 20 minutes walk to the centre although there are numerous bus's running into town. Personally, I enjoyed the walk. My room was on the ground floor next to the bright little dining room. Plenty of choice for breakfast and Emma, the host, was very friendly and made the stay like a home from home. There was also a handy small store for my bicycle. A ride or walk to the end of the longest pleasure pier in the country is a must when visiting Southend!

A clean, comfortable, well-run hotel in an old building dating back to the dawn of Southend as a seaside resort in the 1790s with a view over the estuary and the pier. Our hostesses were friendly & helpful and you will get a decent breakfast. Comfy beds, too. It's about a 6-min walk to Southend Central station and 12 to Southend Victoria. And if you are at all interested in Anglo-Saxon history, you might want to visit the town museum to see the Prittlewell Prince burial finds.

A very good hotel and room for the budget, as always in my experience with Wetherspoon hotels. Huge room with a good range of facilities and excellent bathroom. Very clean and quiet despite the central location (opposite Central railway station and 1 minute from bus station - useful, as I was travelling a lot by public transport). Convenient checkout procedure.
