Ohrid is a nice peaceful getaway for everyone living in a big busy city. All the churches and the serenity of the lake are very calming. A must see is St. Neum monastery, you can take a 15e cruise boat ride (to and from included in the price) to it, bike or even walk if you're in good shape. St. Stefan is also lovely. Visit as many beaches as you can as even the non established ones have walkways to them and are clean and beautiful. The prices are pretty good, lakeside restaurants will of course charge you more but it is affordable on a medium budget. If you cook in the place you're staying or eat in bakeries and grill houses you can save even more. Be ready for the water to be very cold in June but July and August are better. Even though cold, its refreshing and nice to swim in. My recommendations are Liquid, especially their cappuccino with cream, Pako house for pancakes, Kajche restaurant for their Exotic salad, Leonardo pizzeria for amazing pasta and pizza, Korzo ice cream for a cold treat.Guest review byDolasevicSerbia - 10.0

Great city, reminded me of Berat, Albania from the architecture and buildings, being on a hillside and all. Obviously much more investment and vitality than the former. If you wake up early you can your the old town in a day, check the old bazaar by evening and that would be it more or less. I wouldn't suggest to spend more than one entire day in the city. So much history in such a nice place! Divers communities live together making it a lively town. People are friendly, open and helpful. Tour the lake in a boat, walk the Bridge of Wishes, pay a visit to oldest churches in the region. I have lived in Ohrid in the past, for about 9 years.
I have lived in Ohrid in the past, for about 9 years. I know the city quite well and I have the highest recommendations for a visit. Ohrid Lake is truly unlike your usual lake and combined with National Park Mountain Galichica, as well as a strong cultural and historical heritage, it makes Ohrid a true gem and gives you a broad range of options to explore around. The best time to go is between April and end of October. If you are aiming to go to the beach, then aim for start of June - end of August, latest mid-September. Ohrid is known for many things - unique aspects of its cuisine include local sweet water fish (like trout and carp), gomleze (a local pie-like pastry made over an open fire and a long preparation time), the well-known Ohrid cherries and tomatoes (expect your mind to be blown), as well as great local wines. Other than its cuisine, Ohrid is known for its sweet water pearl making tradition. Jewelry made with the famous Ohrid pearl is sold in many spots throughout the town. Look for local jewelers and make sure you buy a certified pearl - or even better, a piece of jewelry made of silver filigree (another jewelry making technique the region is known for) and pearls. Lots of history, churches telling stories beyond religion, food to tickle your taste buds, gorgeous views and swimming options, lots of hiking, via ferrata, climbing and paragliding options... what's not to like! I was visiting in the off season so it was a little cold and all the leaves had fallen. I could easily see how wonderful this town would be in the summer. Beautiful homes well groomed everywhere.
