The location was perfect for a very early flight the next morning. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. As we had a lot of luggage we couldn't walk the short distance and they organised a taxi for us. The hotel and our room were immaculate and a nice outside area

FAQs about hotels in Faro

Colourful, Historic, and Sunny

Faro is the picturesque capital of the Algarve region, offering colourful streets and buildings, Moorish influence, and typical Portuguese charm. It is encompassed by the lagoon of Ria Formosa Natural Park, and offers wide beaches, a laid-back atmosphere, and a vibrant nightlife.

Occupied by Phoenicians and Carthaginians, and once an important Roman harbour and Moorish culture capital, it was almost flattened by the 1755 earthquake. Happily, the historic centre survived and is today one of best preserved in Algarve. Choosing a hotel in Faro’s Old Town will allow you to have a more authentic Portuguese experience.

The long, sandy beach of Praia de Faro is 7 km from the city, and the beach on Barreta Island –also known as Deserta - is probably the most tranquil in the region. Hotels near the beach in Faro and the surrounding towns of Olhão, Tavira, Quinta do Lago, Quarteira and Vilamoura, are all excellent ways to enjoy sunny Portugal.

Faro International Airport offers connections throughout Europe, and the city also offers ferry, railway, and bus links. Whether you need a beach resort or a hotel near Faro Airport, check out the wide offer available on Booking.com!

Faro is a lovely little town, easy to aces by train from Lisbon or plane. There is wonderful seafood and coffee and plenty of little sites to enjoy in Old Town! I rented a car and was able to drive over to Lagos and enjoyed a nice beach day there as well!

Worth visiting - interesting history and museums, plus attractive cathedral with a tower worth going up to see the views. Also a very pleasant harbour. Attractive pedestrianised old town too with lots of really nice restaurants and cafes. Best activity for me was the eco boat trip on the wetlands which I really enjoyed and found very interesting - and the beach on the Desert Island was lovely.

Faro has many interesting facets that should appeal to most travelers. It has a long and varied history, a lively waterfront scene, and a gorgeous beach a short ferry ride away. I would certainly recommend coming in May when the crowds have yet to materialize, and the weather is ideal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the centre of Faro.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the centre of Faro. It is a very walkable city. There are many restaurants and bars to choose from. The marina is small but pretty and the old quarters are worth exploring. Easy to get to other areas by train or bus. E.G. like the beautiful Olhao. The trains seems to be very cheep and the buses very expensive. (if they aren't on strike). If you are aged over 65 the Trains are 1/2 price but you must show your passport. Also entry fees don't show a Senior price but worth asking like at the Cathedral.

Faro is a nice place. The weather was perfect. But as someone who likes to see morden things, I personally think Faro didn’t do it for me. It had lots of old buildings. I know it’s history. But….. not just for me.

We stayed in Faro for four nights, extending our stay two nights in this wonderful place. A refurbished old villa in the center of town offers the old-time charm of Portugal paired with modern amenities. The rooms are spacious and clean. There is a large kitchen area, a patio and a common area with a piano and a very coold 19th century safe. The proprietors however are the main reason this place rules: Pedro and Paolo are top notch people and very helpful in every way! We can only recommend.

The hotel staff were excellent in all respects, from the very friendly, helpful, efficient team on reception, the shuttle bus drivers, breakfast and bar staff and the cleaners. Although the hotel is located about halfway between the airport/beach and central Faro, the daily shuttle bus and other transport links made the location work.
