The garden, pool and the rooms were very nice. Also the use of the laundry room was good and there was always free coffee and tea available. The possibility to rent bikes and stand up paddles for free was amazing! We really enjoyed staying here!

The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and everything was very clean and neat. Easy communication and all the necessary information before arriving with codes to open the doors was easy. We were comfortable.

Hilo is an interesting place with friendly people - like all of Hawaii. It has an authentic in tact diverse culture that the locals are happy to share. Plenty of restaurants, an excellent farmers market, an abundance of outdoor activities. Lots to do in town and around from the volcano to the rain forests and small mill towns north of the city. It rains in Hilo so be sure to have a parka handy. The zoo is well worth a visit too.

First time visiting Hilo. A very friendly laid back town.
First time visiting Hilo. A very friendly laid back town. Lots of great dining options, Gardens, Caves, Volcano National Park, Water Falls, snorkeling. Beaches are more on the rocky side. They’re not all sandy Southern California beaches, so be careful if body surfing or boogie boarding. A lot of reefs. Good idea to have water shoes for foot protection. Take an hour drive up to Mauna Kea observatory. Visitor center is above the clouds at 9200 feet. Or drive up to the summit at 14,000 feet (4x4 mandatory). Incredible views and sunset. If moonless night the star gazing will be incredible.

Hilo had an old-Hawaiian charm.
Hilo had an old-Hawaiian charm. Downtown was walkable with charming, artsy and unique shops. All four restaurants we ate at were unexpectedly excellent. And the location was perfect—very close to the airport, an hour to Volcanos National Park, the starting point for a multi-stop road trip north (highly recommend Botanical Gardens), and a nearby park/beach where we saw a sea turtle. We also had great weather!

We recently had a lovely quick visit at Whaler Inn in Hilo, and I must say, it exceeded my expectation in every way.
The convenience of the location cannot be overstated. Just a 10 min walk from bars, breakfast places, farmers market, etc.
The house was very comfortable, and the decorations of the nautical themes were super cute.
The description on how to access the property is very helpful since there are also units marked as A and B in the backyard area.
We highly recommend it to anyone needing a comfortable and friendly place to stay in Hilo. We will definitely return on our next trip to Hilo.

I like most of Hilo offers, including the pretty drive up to Volcanoes National Park. I loved the Hilo Hawaiian Style Cafe, and also the Kuhio Grille, both close to downtown. Their staffs were great, as was the food. Plus, I always enjoy stopping at Big Island Candies for wonderful cookies and snacks - they never disappoint. And finally, Rainbow Falls is beautiful and so easy to get to! Unfortunately, downtown Hilo is not quite as charming as it once was -- primarily due to closed businesses and an increase in the homeless occupation of the sidewalks. I feel terrible for those people, but it definitely affects foot traffic in the area. I hope it bounces back!

Hilo is a very industrial, run down little town with very little to see and do. The old town is a cute strip to stroll through, but after that the list of things to see and do in town gets very limited.
The surrounding waterfalls are ok, but the beaches aren’t that great or attractive to be honest.
Kona is definately much nicer and worth a day trip.

Easy to find , near to bus stop , free car parking very helpful security men , nice view of reeds bay , nice little swimming pool. micro wave and big fridge freezer and nice park next to hotel.
Cheapest hotel in local area.
The hotel was in a great location and there were lovely gardens to walk around. The double beds were small but comfortable. The room was large. There was a convenience store just outside the hotel that was handy.
we stayed at a ocean front suite room.
the ocean view seen from the windows facing north and east was womderful. the hotel staffs are kind.
we are completely satisfied with their warm hospitality.
The place is horrible. One of the worst places I stayed in. The staff is generally friendly. It is central to Hilo. We didnt complete our stay and instead went to a different hotel
Convenient property in Hilo, with friendly staff and good rooms. The place had a nice vibe, and was just what we needed while visiting the East coast of Big Island.
