On average, it costs $50 per night to book a 3-star hotel in Cairo for tonight. You'll pay around $78 if you choose to stay in a 4-star hotel tonight, while a 5-star hotel in Cairo will cost around $180, on average (based on Booking.com prices).
Born of an ancient civilization, Cairo is a vast metropolis centered around the Nile. Its sheer scale can feel overwhelming (especially when flying over Cairo Airport), so plan ahead. An obvious starting point are the Giza Pyramids. Although the pharaohs are long gone, the grandeur of their burial pyramids, the Sphinx and Solar Boat are testament to their ambition.
The city’s Egyptian Museum houses a dazzling display of ancient Egyptian artifacts, including finds from Tutankhamen's tomb in Luxor. Around the corner is Tahrir, a huge square and focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution.
East is Islamic Cairo, home to the 9th-century Ibn Tulun Mosque, Al-Azhar Mosque (site of the world’s oldest university), and the Khan el-Khalili souk (remember to haggle). The Citadel, with its elegant Mohammed Ali Pasha Mosque, sits on a hill offering far-reaching city views.
If you need a break from cultural tours, take a Nile cruise by felucca, spot wildlife in Wadi Digla desert park or visit Egypt’s top theme parks: Dream Park and Magic Land, where you can tour Egyptian TV studios.
Before heading to your Cairo accommodations, sample the local cuisine – the falafel and fuul (bean paste) are delicious. Coffee is a staple and there are hundreds of shisha bars, while major Cairo hotels have bars serving alcohol.

When I went to Cairo I was worried as a single female traveller so it was a huge relief to see that people were friendly and welcoming. I felt very safe on the streets as I explored. I was staying in downtown Cairo and the worst problem was that the signage was all in Arabic which I couldn't read. I ended up with a huge mobile bill because I was using google maps so much!
However walking the streets as I did every day for 4-5 hours was a great way of experiencing the city. I was there to have an art exhibition and I loved welcoming Cairene visitors to the show, they were so interested and engaged.
I should mention that the city is UNBELIEVABLY noisy - bring earplugs!

There are way too many "favorite spots" to list.
There are way too many "favorite spots" to list. Obviously if you're going to Cairo you'll need to visit the Pyramids. The malls are exquisite and should not be missed. The cost of everything is more than reasonable. Make sure you have the Uber app. The cost of uber is so cheap, it almost seems criminal to pay so little. People are friendly. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe and never threatened. Cairo is busy almost 24/7 so there's so much to see, feel and hear. The vibe here is great!

Cairo is amazing - people are warm and kind not like everyone says about scams, you do need to be careful as everywhere but people are so welcoming! They ask for money only because that is their only income - tourism! Please be kind when you visit!
If you plan to go pyramids we met Ahmed - an amazing human being & guide. Spent a full day together going 3 or 4 different virwpoints for the pyramids & visited 2 of them which are free for the public (for the big one you have to buy ticket), he took stunning photos of us, we rode camels and ATVs and went to a cafeteria in the desert where locals spend evenings having coffe and tea and riding horses and you can see the pyramids. Then went to papyrus museum and lotus flower essences for free with him too. We didn’t plan to have a guide for the pyramids but was absolutely worth it, he was so warm and kind and made our whole experience unforgettable and authentic, the highlight of our whole trip! He also has more tours available. Trustworthy man - worth booking with him, only good words about him, that’s why I am writing here about him, amazing! Ahmed’s phone number & Whatsapp - 00201112693355 or 00201001140228.

A city with chaotic traffic.
A city with chaotic traffic. The museum and the civilisation is great. People don’t speak English. If you want to travel there you should go with a group or a licences touristic guide. Don t trust simple drivers who will offer to guide you. They are just people who want extra money and don’t really know to guide you

Are you going to Cairo to visit Giza and the Cairo Museum?
Are you going to Cairo to visit Giza and the Cairo Museum? You will not regret it.
Not many other reasons to go there. To say that traffic is chaos would be unfair to the word chaos. Be prepared. Noisy and polluted city. But, the archeological sites are mesmerizing. I believe once the new airport and hotel are open and fully functional near Giza, that would be the moment to go. Avoiding the East bank of the Nile and the long drive to the International airport all together will be the ticket
Just opened two weeks ago.
Completely new renovated 5 star hotel.
Magnificent view of the pyramids from our room.
Reception : the staff at the reception was very helpful , very kind .
Great thanks to the Director of food and beverage:
the breakfast is of high quality products. The staff was very attentive and the Director was asking our feedback.
Location: you are in king Faisal street facing the pyramids : 6 km of shops, restaurants opened till after midnight , banks, etc
Conclusion: we were very happy to discover this hotel.
I come from ireland, we booked The Best Veiw Pyramids Hotel. we have the most amazing time here. The rooftop terrace was amazing, front row seats for the lighting show. Breakfast was delightful as was the services. Staff and Hotel was 5 start. I can not recommend enough. We will be back. Great place for meditation and experiencing Giza at it's best. Very safe Hotel and area... Hotel spotless clean. Nothing is to much and everything is possible.. the owner Adam goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is amazing.
The people were all friendly and helpful. The hotel is a bit dated but everyone tried to make it very homey and inviting. The location is in a quiet area but with lots of riverside cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are very clean although the beds were a bit hard. The hotel breakfast was the best part, it was a slightly fancier version of the standard Egyptian breakfast and very delicious. The view was amazing from both side of the hotel so you can't go wrong there!
The VIEWS!!! We booked a pyramid view room with a balcony and it far surpassed what I could have expected. Even the 5 star hotels on the other side of the pyramids cannot complete with this hotel. Truly breathtaking.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They really went out of their way for us, including going to the local falafel stand on our behalf during the pyramid lights show.
Beds are clean and comfortable.
The free airport pick-up was another appreciated bonus.
I had a lovely stay at this hotel. Stunning views of the Nile and city. Helpful staff. Authentic Egyptian breakfast. Free airport shuttle. Spacious and clean rooms. Private balcony. Ahmed, the Receptionist helped us organise tours and transport to the tourist sites as well as ordering in delicious shawarmas from the local takeaway. Lots of amazing restaurants such as Happy dolphin within a 5 minute walk. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would return if I visit Cairo again.
Our room got upgraded. The hotel is close to CAI airport, in a nice and secure area. The staff were friendly and helpful. Also, while entering the hotel, I dropped a significant amount of money by mistake, and they chased me until they returned the money, which displays the integrity of the hotel staff. The room service menu was as affordable as the prices in average restaurants outside, something I didn't see in five-star ranked hotels. And yeah, the beds were super comfy."
The hotel is located in the center of Tahrir. For those who love city life, the best. Everything is in the area, restaurants, shopping. The hotel is very clean, bed linen, towel is changed every day, cleaning is done. The cleanest hotel I have ever met in Egypt. The breakfast was crambled eggs , cheese, baked goods, vegetables. That was enough. The staff is very kind and helpful. Very good little hotel I can only recommend them.
"Staff, keen desire to meet clients' every expectations from even before our stay, amazing view from rooftop of 3 pyramids, location in front of the pyramids tv, fridge, coffee and tea in pyramids view room, full breakfast.
All staff are very polite and very kind. Cheap and best to fulfill your trip.
Hotel management to arrange all sightseeing places compare to all other tourist company here very affordable.
This was my final hotel on my 6 month african adventures, number 26 i think and one of the best. Couldn`t fault the hotel at all, it was very close to the airport, looked and felt like an ocean liner of old. Queen Mary when she was in her pomp!! Room was very big, wide bed, shower room with all its free stuff inc a loofer, very good. In my top 5 of hotels in africa, and the best i stayed in Egypt.
Our stay at the Sphinx golden gate pyramids hotel exceeded our expectations, this family run hotel attended to our needs promptly, gave good advice for excursions around Egypt and all came with a good energy and vibe. A very authentic Egyptian atmosphere with great food and very friendly staff. The rooftop was exceptional, with views of the pyramids. Would definitely recommend
I loved everything about the hotel. Our flight arrived pretty late (around 1:30am) and there were a lot of people at front desk ready to help. Breakfast truly blew my mind off, best meal we had in Cairo for sure and quite cheap for $15 per person. Room was comfortable and location perfect
Hotel is very well located if you want a place near the airport and outside the busy streets of Cairo, it has good facilities and restaurants and a wonderful spa with mostly local Egyptians working in it, definitely a good pick if you want a stay nearby Cairo airport
Top location, just 10 minutes walking from the Egyptian museum; stores and restaurants very close to the hotel. The staff was extremely helpful, friendly and kind. The room was very nice, spacious and clean. Free wifi. Great breakfast. Best value for money
Madina Hostel is just amazing! Mustafa and his team are pure honey. It‘s as clean as in a 5 star hotel. I was so impressed. Came many times to Cairo before but this is DEFINITELY the best place to stay.
P.S.: The free breakfast is insane. Much love…
Great modern hotel in on old building nearby the Egyptian Museum, bus station and many restaurants. Work in progress but when they finish in few days, it will be one of best accommodation in Cairo. The Staff is fantastic!
The history of the hotel is so impressive and all the different decoration and items inside the hotel are gorgeous. Breakfast in the morning is very well served and has the best restaurants selections in location.
everything! the best hotel we have been while in Egypt. nice stuff, great location in residential area and walkable area with good restaurants and nice things to visit around the venue
Rooms are spacious and comfortable
Personnel was amazing. Proactive and friendly
Overall experience is hard to beat. Same level as best 5 star hotels anywhere in the world
