The AA 4* rated Crown House Inn has a history of hospitality going back to King Charles II, rumored to have left his wife at Audley End, stopped off here to meet his friends before continuing on to Newmarket races. Easily accessible by both road and rail, situated in the village of Great Chesterford. We are close to the university city of Cambridge, National Trust properties of Ickworth, Anglesey Abbey, Wimpole Estate. Audley End, with its grounds, house tours and seasonal concerts and events is 3 miles away. We are also close to the medieval market town of Saffron Walden, with its street markets, historical walks, independent shops, mazes and restaurants. A small independently owned Inn, we are consistently highly reviewed for our friendly, helpful customer relationships. We are very proud of this grade II listed building with its history of famous guests, of secret tunnels and priest holes. The Crown House is perfect for getaways/corporate events. We love to share this historic building with our guests. Our breakfasts are also highly rated on review sites, we do not serve evening meals. Allergies catered for. Advance notice is appreciated.

Well served by excellent travel links by road and rail. Popular with walkers, on The Icknield Way in a delightful Essex village. The Crown House is a non corporate, romantic hotel offering ensuite rooms, each with a flat screen TV . It easy to stay connected during your stay as free WIFI is offered to our guests. The hotel is nestled in beautiful grounds with comfortable outdoor furniture, in the gazebo or on the patio. Guests can enjoy sitting in the lounge, which is a popular choice among travellers visiting Great Chesterford. Room service is available,(chargeable) and you can order newspapers. For guests with a vehicle, we offer free on site parking. We do not serve evening meals. There are two pubs/restaurants in the village The Plough or The Crown and Thistle. We also have a delicatessen bakery serving snacks during the day, all a short walk away. We look forward to welcoming you to The Crown House!
