A great place away nestled in beautiful natural surroundings away from the hustle of Seminyak. Ubud central has got a great selection of eating places, esp. Nusa was just excellent and Luna was great too. The market is great for shopping. Ubud is very popular and crowded. It offers a large number of restaurants, pubs with live music, shops, massage parlours, etc. You can easily book a taxi driver to take you on a trip to a particular place you want to visit. We enjoyed rafting in the jungle very much. In the evenings there are Bali dance shows at the palace. Plan your days in Ubud well, to avoid ending up spending your time on the road. It takes 1 hour to travel 4 kms if you are lucky. Amazing place full of nature, culture and heritage. You can cover a lot, if you wake up early and start before the traffic jam kicks in. Toilets especially for ladies is a major issue, even in good restaurants. Avoid street food, carry a sanitizer and drink loads of water or pocari...tender coconut(young coconut as they call it) is a good option, but only drink the water and don't expect to eat the inner stuff as the spoons they give are really filthy. Ubud is super busy - I went mostly in the evenings and enjoyed my time there. I especially loved the monkey forest though not actually for the monkeys but instead for the valley, the view, the old feel, the statues and of course the fun of seeing the monkeys.
