Depends on each individual expectations, this is not a noise place with nitclubs, but it is very good for relaxation, countryside but wonderful, people are going earlier to bed and is so peaceful, you can find diferit restaurant on the village with a lot of options, I highly recommend it if you like the tranquility and nature

The hotel is very pleasant.
The hotel is very pleasant. It is good to be together with nature and with beautiful views over the sea and mountains. However, check-in took a long time, we waited 1 hour and a half for them to prepare the room, and when we got to the room, there were no pool towels, we had to ask at reception. Another situation that I didn't like was the booking of the wine tasting and visit to wine house. We were refused the wine tasting because we had already checked out at 12:00h. So we asked if we could do it before check out and they said yes, but we got there and nobody showed up.

Don't stay in Santana longer than 4 days and make sure you have a rental car to get to all the levadas easily. The restaurants/cafes in Santana are not that good/nice. The only tourist attraction in Santana are the famous Santana houses and the nearby hiking area Queimadas.

We made the mistake of not hiring a car before we got to the hotel. We figured we would see what Santana was like and then hire a car locally, this was a big mistake! Once we got to our hotel, it was clear that we would need a car to get around as nothing is close or easy to get to. We're super active people but local hikes are 30 mins just to get to. We were told it would be £630 to hire a car for 5 days. Our advice would be to hire a car ahead of your trip.
Santana is beautiful and has such a variety of things to do and see. Other advice would be to not judge a book by its cover when it comes to restaurants, we ate the best stake in a tiny little restaurant that looked pretty grim from outside.
You probably wont want to spend all your time in Santana but its a great base.

It is a lovely, peaceful and relaxing place.
I wanted time to chill, and Santana did that.
Lovely scenery.
Eat at the Serra e Mar
Don't bother with the tourists traditional houses, there are plenty of genuine ones in the town, some very rustic

We love Santana in the winter.
We love Santana in the winter. The tourists are all in Funchal, so you have the place for yourself.
Santana is ideally placed for the best hikes in Madeira: Pico Ruivo (at least 3 different hikes start here, all top-class), Queimadas with its amazing hikes and others. Also a short drive to the airport.
There are some great restaurants in Santana and the adjoining villages and all the services you may need.
The hotel is really very beautiful. the staff is nice and helpful and smiling. The breakfast was varied and a large selection. I had dinner in the restaurant and the local fish and mussels, including Madeiran wine, were delicious. The room was luxurious with a balcony and a view of the garden and the ocean in the distance. In addition, they also have parakeets and a great talking parrot in a cage near the hotel. He was absolutely charming and not only talked but had a great laugh.
The House is very spacious with beautiful view on mountains. It has its own parking spot for those who came by car. It has equipped kitchen and washing mashine. The owner was super nice and we want to thank Maria for letting us come earlier because we had wedding. It has AC and the cleaning was very good. The check in and check out was superb and quick. The location is also good because you have few minutes to Santana centre.
The reception staff was friendly and efficient and the room was spacious and clean. The massive bed was very comfortable with cozy linens. Easily the best bed we had throughout our stay in Portugal. the attached restaurant was fairly good and the included breakfast was decent continental fare. We would definitely stay here again if we passed through Santana.
Santana in Nature was an excellent surprise! The staff went above and beyond to make my stay at the hotel and in the area enjoyable and comfortable. My economy room was beautiful and spacious. I was also really happy to soak in the whirlpool after long hikes. There are also several beautiful hikes accessible by foot directly from the hotel or by bus.
Rui is a fantastic host. Santana was the perfect place for us to stay for a week in Madeira. Lots of places to eat nearby. All very reasonable. Close to hikes. Swam every day at Praia do Faial. Don't miss the pastries at Bia, literally 2 min drive away from here. And once more Rui is wonderful, recommendations for everything you could ask for.
we really liked the Casas de Campo. The staff were great. The breakfast was quite good and included items baked by the owner. The bed was comfy and the living area good. Santana afternoons and evenings can be cooler when the clouds come in but the heating took the edge off quickly. The kitchen was simple but adequate for meal preparation.
The room was very comfortable and spacious, especially the bathroom. Nice decoration. Common area (kitchen & living room) was also convenient and well equipped. Beautiful surroundings, levada walk next door. :) I believe the restaurant belongs to the owners, make sure to have a reservation as it can get quite crowded during dinner time.
The property is very conveniently located to the Santana houses, Pico Ruivo and other great hikes in the area. In order to get there you need a car. The house is very spacious with lots of special touch and decor. It has absolutely everything a family with kids would be needed for their stay.
Everything about the suite was fantastic. Wish every hotel was this well thought out and functional. Great view, great shower, great kitchenette, great cat. Thank you for having the heat on, nights were still chilly, and not everyplace in Madeira did!
Casa do Manuel was clean, spacious, and had a comfortable bed. Fully equipped kitchen with everything we needed. Private terrace which was perfect for eating breakfast in the sun. Walking distance from "downtown" Santana. Friendly and helpful hosts.
Our favorite place on the island. Welcoming, peaceful and tucked away right behind the beautiful city center of Santana. This is what staying on Madeira should feel like. And let us not forget the welcoming and friendly people that run this place.
Beautiful grounds (even in February) with some trees and plant flowering and lots of greenery. Beautiful building with lots of character. Rooms were clean and we'll made up. Neat that they have a traditional Santana house on the property.
we found the location perfect for hiking and trail running, and the staff were really nice!
We ate mostly at the hotel as we found every restaurant in Santana had the same menu, but B&B nature had the best food, service and view
Very nice place, Santana is simple but yet so beautiful! I really loved the ocean view from the bedroom window. There are good places to eat close by and everyone speaks English!
