Eureka had some cute shops and we had dinner at a really good restaurant called Sea Grill. It's close to the Redwoods, with all kinds of things to see and places to hike, and many beaches on the ocean, with beautiful views.

We went to visit the zoo.
We went to visit the zoo. It was a great experience to see the animals at the zoo. We walked the elevated walk in the zoo up in the giant trees and saw a nature walk outside the zoo. We asked about that walk in the cafe at the zoo. We walked the nature walk outside the zoo and it was so peaceful.

Charming downtown area. Many choices of good live music. Friendly safe atmosphere - that small town feeling. All kinds of interesting shopping and a variety of places to eat. Enjoyed some delicious seafood while also enjoying a view of the bay.

Upon arriving in Eureka, a sense of gratitude can be felt, as travel to this sea-side city isn't a simple trek. Either way one might enter, the city offers many dining options as well as plentiful booking opportunities if one plans on staying for more than a day. Traveling Dashers and gig workers be warned, there is VERY limited work opportunity here including the sister city of Fortuna. Scheduling in advance may be helpful, however if one relies on their delivery work as a means of paying for fuel and room, things can become grim fairly quickly if not prepared.
For those not concerned by societal pre-requisits, the city is host to many fun experiences for outdoors enthusiasts / those seeking oceanside treks. Coastal exploration is seemingly integrated into the cities overal design and makes for much of the history which it has been built upon.
There are some big name shopping outlets to be explored, like Walmart and The Home Depot to name a couple. And with that said, one can also expect to encounter the more poverty ridden social classes in abundance (I say this with respect to the lesser fortunate, as I myself am without a home nor a place to wash clothes or shower even). I will not sugar coat the reality of what one may find in their travels to Eureka, as I believe that genuine reviews with honesty and realism bring about positive change (or we can only hope so).
All in all, if you're just traveling the coastal highways and learning to find yourself once again, Eureka is a much needed stop along your route. Whether to fuel up and move out onward wherever, or stay a night or more, here one can always find what they're looking for.
On the way to Oregon, the overnight stop in Eureka turned out to be more fun, comfortable and charming than I had expected. I rented a free-standing, well-built wood cabin with a double bed and bunk beds. I was able to have my dog at no extra cost. There is a porch! and a firepit/picnic table. Communal restrooms, with enclosed showers, were extremely clean and large.
We drove past it 2x. We were greeted by no one. We lugged our bags up all the stairs found our creepy “apartment”. Then the smell… Like a convalescent center. Poor ventilation. No AC. We sat long enough to book another hotel in town. It was worth the $ to get away from the smell. I do think it’d be smart to give me a portion of my money back. Plus, no parking.
It’s a beautiful old building. This has nothing to do with the hotel but there was a vintage car rally when we were there which we thoroughly enjoyed. I thought Eureka was quite nice. There were in fact a lot of homeless but they did not bother us when we were there. Go to Los Bagels close by for breakfast. Bed was good. Shower was good.
Incredibly charming hotel in the middle of Eureka. Our bedroom had a lot of character and featured a lovely reading nook with view over the city. Ideally located just next to the best restaurant in town. I would highly recommended staying there while driving up the Californian coast.
It was an incredible facility with an oasis hidden in the middle of the city, pool, hot tub, limousine, quiet, modern and secluded. Aaron at the front desk was exceptional and gave us a warm welcome. I can’t wait for my next stay at this location… easily the best hotel in Eureka
We’ve stayed here before and liked our stay. We got a nice quiet room upper floor in the back. The breakfast was very good and enjoyed the fried cut up sausage which I never have seen during all our stays this trip at any other hotel breakfasts.
The Travelodge is within walking distance to the historic city center. Eureka is full of Victorian architecture, restaurants and bars, waterfront views, artistic murals, and small shops full of artifacts and clothes.
Our room was nice, the bed comfortable and breakfast was great, the location and overall presentation of this hotel is very nice, but our room had a fruity smell of drug use that permeated everything.
The guy working the desk was the nicest person, and fixed the booking error. I did a same day booking on this site, the reservation sent to the hotel was for the following day.
