The lotions, soaps and shampoos. The electronic keys didn't work more than once. We had to keep going downstairs to get new keys. Then call each other to tell the other person the keys had been changed again. Our friends sytem was out for over an hour and it delayed our dinner plans and messed up. If I tell anyone to stay here because of the rate and the location I will warn them about the shortcomings so they know what to expect |

The bottom sheet of the bed was too small and came lose easily resulting in sleeping directly on the mattress at times. You must have heard this from others. It is very annoying and so easily fixed with some fitted sheets. |

We've been to the Helmsley before and will come back again. Perfect location close to Grand Central in a friendly neighbourhood. Really very clean. Friendly staff. Good security (entry control at night). Great views - asking for it at checkin, we got a room on 35th floor. For NYC standards very spacious room. Wireless LAN for free. Not really cheap, but for NYC a good price - and worth it. Only minor things: Rooms might need a refurbishment someday - not that they're ugly, just a little old-fashioned. Shower was rather dripping than showering. One of our windows didn't close perfectly - facing busy 42nd street with all its emergency vehicle runs, we personally liked the authentic city sounds; others might consider that noisy. |
