Breakfast was fantastic. Ordered what you liked and the lattes were great! Had a nice snack pantry area on the second floor. The location was great and I loved walking to the shambles and around the medieval walls. Pro tip - reserve your parking ahead. Wonderful help bringing bags in and up to our room on the third floor - there are steps. Lovely old house and rooms were beautifully decorated. Lovely parlor and bar as well!

FAQs about hotels in York

England Through the Ages

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once gave access to the city.

Walk the walls for wonderful views of the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.

A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even try out archaeology for yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.

Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around a 30-minute drive away, Castle Howard is a stately home on an over 1,000-acre estate.

Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there's a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses in York and on the outskirts available on Booking.com.

The hotel is central & the staff are all excellent.

The hotel is central & the staff are all excellent. They seem to enjoy their roles & therefore make your stay very pleasant. You can walk to all the tourist destinations in minutes. Plus you are not far from a Yorkshire welcome in the local pubs. The Royal Oak in Goodramgate (easily walking distance) being one that stands out. The countryside around York is not to be missed & a drive up to say..Whitby or better still take the steam train is a perfect way to spend a day.

Loved York a lot of history beautiful parks & scenery & York Minster amazing, lots to See & do No chance of getting bored! However i wouldn't choose to go End of November..it was mighty busy & i mean busy huge queues every where make sure to prebook! Every thing was fully booked! I was dissapointed in the chocolate shops being a chocolate lover. Very Expensive! & believe me im not stingy by any means But!! £1.20 for the tiniest of chocolate & i mean tiny & £8 for six of those tiny chocolates! 6.50 for a chocolate coin! Mmm shame i think lower the prices & get more buyers for sure! Ivy worth a visit we had a fab full English breakfast! & Bettys tea room go early to avoid the queues! All in All fab weekend break!
