FAQs about hotels in Val Gardena
Dream Valley of the Dolomites
Situated between 1,250 and 1,550 metres above sea level, Val Gardena is part of the South Tyrol region of Italy. The Gardena River runs alongside it, surrounded by the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Dolomites. Populated by a Latin-speaking majority, its fabric mixes Austrian and Italian traditions.
Sasso Lungo Mountain (3,181 metres) is probably one of the most iconic symbols of the valley, while the Puez-Odle Natural Park also includes some of the highest peaks of the valley. A large part of Val Gardena hotels are in Selva, precisely because the town is located between the Sasso Lungo and the Park. Ortisei and Santa Cristina are the other 2 towns in the valley.
Val Gardena is also celebrated for the quality of its handcraftsmanship, particularly for the woodcarvers specialised in religious statuary. Nonetheless, it counts with beautiful refuges and restaurants located in the mountains, offering delicious meals accompanied with breath-taking views.
But it’s during winter that the valley offers its most renowned side: Val Gardena’s ski facilities are some of the best of Europe. The very fast Saslong World Cup track or the Sella Ronda are legendary.

There is something for everyone in Ortesei and it is a special family destination as well. We loved the summer climate, the cool crisp air, and the beauty of the amazing Dolomites. The restaurants were great, there was ample shopping, and the locals were warm, friendly and helpful. We did not have a car, but did not need one with the free bus system that was very efficient. The gondolas, funicular annd chair lifts took us to some great spots for hiking and the ambience in the Refugios was great!Guest review byBarbaraUnited States - 10.0
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites.
The town is the perfect location to explore the Dolomites. Hotels and Apartments are plentiful and in every price level. You can choose from so many hikes (all different levels) you can fill 3 weeks. Depending what other locations are on your itinerary, 3 days allow you to see the highlights and get a sense of the beauty of the Dolomites. Yet, it's easy to fill a week. Summer like winter.Guest review byMichaelGermany - 10.0

Traditional Village that is set back from the main route so there is far less traffic than Selva. Still have quick access to the Sella Ronda from the main gondola Can be a little bit confusing navigating the pistes at first as they aren't all numbered clearly but it's quick to figure out. If you end up in Selva then there is a bus back but easier to take the gondola up and take the red down.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Delightful small town with lots of ways to access hiking trails / ski areas. Maybe a little less convenient to mountain bikers, but superb for everyone else. St Christina and 1-2 villages upstream may be better suited to serious bikers. Ortisei is a great gateway to the spectacular Dolomite recreational areas.Guest review byDanielUnited States - 8.0

While Selva absolutely lived up to everything we had heard about how spectacular the Dolomites are, we unfortunately had no fresh snow. We'd made a very long trip from Australia to ski and snowboard, so it was disappointing. That said, we had decent cover and loved the long runs and apres venues. Completing the Sellaronda is one of the best experiences I've ever had on skis.Guest review byMelissaAustralia - 10.0

This enchanting mountain town absolutely mesmerizes with its stunning location and beauty! It boasts a multitude of fantastic restaurants and an abundance of breathtaking hiking trails. In winter, you’ll find superb ski slopes that promise unforgettable experiences. This town captivates you year-round, regardless of the weather. The very place fills you with a sense of joy and wonder!Guest review bynangirrilMoldova - 10.0
I say better than Cortina d’ Ampezzo as a base for hiking.
I say better than Cortina d’ Ampezzo as a base for hiking. More trailheads closeby. The town itself is more lively and the restaurant options are many. The public transport is also more efficient even if it was still off season.Guest review byJanicePhilippines - 10.0

if you are a beginner intermediate you could spend a week on the Sella Ronda - if you are advanced you would get bored after 3-4 days Nothing very challenging for the real adrenaline junkies Selva is a pretty town with lots of hotels and few chalets. Quiet in the evenings.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 8.0

This stay had the most amazing views and the most charming hostess. She was very accommodating and helpful. We really enjoyed talking with her. The accommodations were comfortable. We walked from Garni de Chalet to a local restaurant that was very good. This town had two restaurants but a short drive or bus ride to Ortisei provided many more options to eat.Guest review byAngelaUnited States
