Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWe just liked it - we hope to come back some time.
We cannot thank enough the staff of Illauca de Atacama for their kindness and help in a difficult situation. You have all been brilliant! The hostel itself is very comfortable, in a quiet part of the town, but within easily walkable distance to the centre (about 10-minute walk at normal pace). It has lovely communal areas for chilling. The breakfast was a pleasant surprise, too!

IrelandThey don't refill toilet paper if you don't ask, but it is ok every time I asked for anything I was rapidly attended.
The hostal is very clean, the hosts(Leticia and Jose) are very helpful. In comparison with what you can get in San Pedro with that price or a little higher I can say Illauca is a 5 stars hostal. I was in two hotels before Illauca, one far away from center and the other one impossible to stay because it was super dirty. So after 3 days on these hotels expending a lot of money I found Illauca and I can say it was a great surprise for us. The details on their brand is amazing, personalized towels, comfortable bad, very cute decoration. The hosts are very responsive, I have to left my luggage earlier and we needed to wash our clothes they provided those services. I recommend this hostel 100%, the distance from the Caracoles is imperceptible, as in the way you can find nice markets to buy something and nice restaurants for evening snack, lunch or dinner. It is a simple place but provid everything you need to a great stay in Atacama.

New ZealandJose and his staff were kind and friendly and went out of their way to accommodate our changing plans, and multitude of questions. Our room was clean and comfortable. The swimming pool and outside areas were great to relax from early morning on the upstairs terrace to the afternoon by the pool and shaded area. There were bikes to ride if you wanted to explore further with helmets, high vis jackets and locks supplied if you wanted to stop in town. Great restaurant down the road 'el Diablillo with great food and music. Breakfast at the hostel was fresh and tasty every day. A really pleasant stay. Thank you. Muchas gracias Jose por toda su attention cordialudad y patience. Carol and Pedro

BelgiumRather cold at night, no electric heater available. Small bathroom. No table, no chairs. The so called 4p room would have been cramped for more than 2p. Fifteen minute walk to town center.
Hotel staff came to Calama (100 km) to pick us up. Big bed, soft pillows, good shower. Kitchen and living room availble during the day. Local excursions arranged for by staff. Good lunch box on simple request. Nice roof terrace. Quiet location.

SlovakiaAll was as expected from pictures and from description of the hostel. I do not speak spanish, but the guest did his best to support our stay. Breakfast was tasty, for hostel really good, better than expected. The guest asked us a day before about the time we want to have a breakfast and he prepared it for agreed time, also late breakfast was possible (one day we had early morning tour so the breakfast was waiting on our return). Hostel was very clean everywhere (our room and also common space) and all was fine during our stay. I

United States of America1. This property is located at the outskirts of San Pedro de Atacama, so it is always a hike to go the main street in the town where restaurants and shops are located. Especially if you are taking the tours, they drop you in town center and you will have to walk all the way back to this hostal, especially painful if it is late at night or you are carrying a heavy backpack and are back from a long tour!!! 2. The room are just okay. Bathrooms are super small. The place is not maintained well at all! The pool is a messy gunk of old uncleaned water 3. The OWNER OF THE PLACE IS SUPER RUDE! One day they offered to pack lunch for us for a tour. What they didn't say was that if you opted for that option, you are not allowed to have breakfast! Not knowing this "rule", we ended up saying yes to packed lunch and my wife and kids showed up to get some breakfast. The owner came and asked them to leave saying they were not "authorized" to have breakfast! It was a very humiliating and insulting experience for them.
Nothing really.
