Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomWhat an absolute gem of a guest house, I am so glad I chose to stay at The Old Manse, I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it. The location is perfect, it’s a short walk to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Station and Pickering town centre. The room we had was lovely, everything you want, even air freshener in the bathroom, which you rarely get. It looked over the garden, we had the window open and we were treated to an owl hooting and the dawn chorus. Val and her team couldn’t have been more lovely and welcoming. Lots of choice for breakfast from kippers to full English, all was delicious. A massive thumbs up from us and thank you for a comfortable relaxing weekend

United KingdomOnly one minor niggle is that the double bed was actually two singles put together so was uncomfortable sat/laid in the middle where the edge of each bed was. Other than that everything top notch.
Close to Pickering station to go on the NYM railway, close to Pickering castle although council haven’t put up any direction signs for the public yet, close to village, 10 mins away from Helmsley and Thornton Le Dale, 30 mins from Whitby. Lovely host and staff.

United KingdomThe shower flow wasn't great and this would extend your time rinsing hair products out. Also had to run the shower a good while before the hot water came through at 7pm. The reduced water pressure may be a symptom of being on the top floor and so close to the water tanks? Reported a few things that needed attention and the owners were happy to fix it. I guess that for disabled people, accessibility may be an issue in this old traditional house due to the stairs.
The location and parking were excellent - the NYMR Pickering Station is just 5 minutes walk away. The breakfast was served in the conservatory and was virtuously faithful to the positive reviews (enormous tea pots a hit). The rooms were spacious and clean - they'd actually been redecorated just weeks before our stay. Staff all friendly and knowledgeable. An experience at a good price. It's just how a small hotel should be run.

Valerie couldn't have done anymore for us, shortly after booking, and knowing we had two flights of stairs to our room, I asked if it was possible to have a ground floor room we got a reply to say unfortunately no. On arrival however, we found that thankfully she had managed to come up with one, thanks to a young student allowed us to use his room after cleaning etc. We will always be gtateful as two flights of stairs by crutches would probably been nigh on unattainable for a near 80 year old with a ruptured Achilles. Thank you so much Valerie, hope to see you again in better circumstances
