Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomHandy location in small quiet community, within walking distance of Honmura and Benesse/Lee Ufan/Chichu along coast roads and via inland small roads. Also bicycles free to use. Nice having our own apartment including basic kitchen facilities, clothes washing equipment. Nearest supermarket Coop in Honmura. Bus stop Tenno shita for no. 2 bus from main port just outside the property.

BelgiumWalls are very thin, it gets cold at night and in the morning, as it is on the ground floor, one can hear loudly all the noises around. They started to clean the next door making noise before 10:00 my checkout hour, when they could have waited only 30 minutes more for me to leave. The noise was very loud and unpleasant. Very rude as if not caring a tall. Which was the impression the owner made when checking in.
It’s a simple compound, with all the necessary (washing machine, kitchenette) felt big as I was alone in a space for double. Well situated, close to bus stops and walking distance from the art displays on the island.

AustraliaThe beds were a bit soft for me. Prefer a harder mattress. The owner wanted payment in cash - I expected that would have been managed through Booking. Com as all our other accommodation was.
Location is great. Right near the town bus stop. A few good cafe/restaurants nearby. Had bedroom, kitchen - which we didn’t use, shower room, toilet room. A bit of space to spread out. And good value.

AustraliaThe walls are very thin, we could very clearly hear our family talking in the cabin next to us.
Comfortable, well sized cabins in a great location. Right next to the bus stop, and Benesse Museum is an easy 15 minute walk away. A number of places to eat in the same street and around the corner.

SpainIt's a bit far from the main towns, but you can use the bus (although it's inconvenient with large suitcases) or walk to the Benesse House area or the famous pumpkin."
It's a small, fully-equipped apartment, and the owner lives in a house in front of the apartments. The owner is very friendly, gave me the key, and provided all necessary explanations. Right across the street, there's a restaurant where you can have a very good dinner (although I didn't see many other options)

United KingdomMy apartment was right next to the road, which actually didn't cause a problem but could have done if it were noisier. But you can easily request a different apartment when booking.
This was a budget friendly option for me. Although it doesn't offer the luxury of a good hotel stay, it does have really good facilities. The location was OK. There are two great family restaurants a minute from the property. But it is in a small fishing village, which, although charming, doesn't have nightlife. The bus stop is just outside the property, and you can easily get to all the art installations and museums on the local bus. The owner was really helpful. He dropped me at the ferry port on my last day.

Small apartment in Naoshima, perfect for a couple of days stay. Has the bus stop 30 seconds down the road and an okonomiaki restaurant opposite the apartment.

SingaporeThe bed was a little low and too soft for my liking but 3 other friends who stayed at the same property were quite happy with their beds.
The location was really good; a stone’s throw from the bus stop. The small eateries within a 2 minute walk from the hotel served delicious food that were reasonably priced. Loved it that the kitchen had everything if you are inclined to cook a simple meal. We found the oven useful to warm up the pastries we bought for breakfast.

We booked this place during a busy time in Naoshima and we’re happy they had availability. It offers an entire apartment for the price of a hotel room. And we had free rental bikes. We couldn’t have been happier.

United KingdomNothing. I just wish we had known how easy the local bus is, so we would have felt comfortable getting a ferry to either port.
It was a really good base, right next to the bus stop, with a kitchenette and washing machine so we could have our own space. It was not fancy, but had everything we needed, including a couple of restaurants nearby.

CanadaThe quiet residential area was great, after the crowds of Benesse House and Chichu Museum. I wish I could have stayed longer, to make use of the kitchen facilities. Handy bus route, but I actually walked back and forth to the Onsen, and to the museums. The unit is ‘no frills’, but is clean and comfortable.

AustraliaThe booking details and paperwork said they took credit cards - they don't. We arrived with insufficient cash and they had to drive us to the 7/11 to withdraw cash to pay for the tariff. The owner was pleasant about this but we were slightly concerned, as he only had a two seater car, so my underage daughter was left alone in the accommodation, while I went off with him to sort out the money. She was concerned being left alone. The advertisement also said that they offer free bikes. They don't anymore. When I asked why, I was told that previous guests had left the island with the key to the bike locks, causing inconvenience. Sounds like a reasonable reason but they need to update the online advertisement.
It's self contained and great value for money. There's a great local okonomiyake restaurant over the road. Located a stones throw from a bus stop. The owner was very friendly but doesn't speak English. He uses printed signs to communicate about the key / check out time etc. I speak Japanese, so no issue, but it might be for other guests.

United States of AmericaNeed more small tables or storage space for bedroom. More hangers. Lamps so don't need to use overhead light - which is very bright. Bed too soft
Perfect stay - the Naoshima bus stop is right across the street, very convenient. The room for 2 people (friends) was big enough that we had enough space. I liked that we had a washer in our room - always a plus! It has been very warm, so having good working air conditioning is a must. 3 places to eat within walking distance. Tried picking up some breakfast stuff at the Co-op market in the Art House project area but it closed at 4pm. Took the bus to 7-11 and got what we needed. Nice and quiet at night!

IrelandThe property is a bit old fashioned and used only during holiday seasons. A folded table is provided as a desk or dining table but space is tight! There is a table with an umbrella outside also. But you can walk to 2 good restaurants.
The owners of the property live across the road and were incredibly helpful and generous. They drove me to the 711 when I arrived for 3 nights during a holiday with no supplies. They also drove me to the port when I was leaving on a very hot day! The property offers free bikes which are essential for getting around the island. It is a 5 minute easy cycle to a the Benesse Art Site and the lovely beach where you can swim with the yellow pumpkin!
