Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The room was quite simple to the point of not even having a nightstand, otherwise it was great.
Fantastic staff, comfortable/clean/quiet room. Breakfast was great as well. Well worth the price.

The Italian restaurant out front was closed for dinner, which left only udon or okanomyiaki for dinner choices.
Location is a bit out of the way, and if you don’t have a car then dining options are limited. That said, comfy, clean, very helpful staff, and they arranged to have our luggage delivered to the hotel from the bike shop right across from the ferry so we could go visit art right away, and in the morning same delivery.

Poor sound-proofing.
Great location. Good breakfast. Friendly staff who made a restaurant reservation for us. Communicated with the bicycle rental place seamlessly and offered prompt luggage forwarding from the bike rental place to the hotel.

Loved everything
The brick architecture of the building was beautiful. It was lovely to come stay here after staying in hostels for 1 month. The staff made this experience exceptional for me. Two ladies at the front counter went above and beyond. At one point all the bikes were booked but one lady made sure to secure it for the next day for me. Another lady also gave me a lift to the ferry when dropping off another persons luggage to ensure I did not miss my barge that was leaving for Teshima island. Overall I loved my stay here and will recommend to friends and family. Thank you!

Our room was situated near the reception and quite near to the staircase and the walls are thin. We can hear what is going on outside and every person that goes up the stairs

As with many Japanese hotels, the room could have been a bit bigger.
The location was perfect for us as we wanted to walk around the island. It was also convenient to the bus to the two ports. It was in a quiet seaside hamlet with two restaurants and easy access to the Benesse Art museum area on foot. The staff were super friendly and helpful - making a dinner reservation for us and enquiring about a taxi. This is a small, modern hotel and very comfortable with an Italian restaurant next door and an Okonomiyaki restaurant just around the corner.

On our last day out of four days, the bathrooms in two rooms had a bad odor, I suspect from the drainage set up. The breakfasts were adequate but could use improvement with more variety of choices.
For Naoshima, it’s a relatively new hotel with basic hotel amenities

breakfast selection was rather basic. no lifts so please do not bring huge luggage.
it met all my expectations, its great value, do not expect luxe but for the price we pay, we have a room with good size, comfortable beds, clean room and include breakfast, we have nothing much to complain about . we drove so we wanted somewhere easy to drive to and park.

The location is far from the ferry port and there are not many dining options around the area.

Only two things -it would have been helpful to be emailed the bus timetable on booking rather than just info about a luggage service from the port we didn't arrive at. We walked 15 mins to the hotel with our luggage then found out about the bus, which wasn't included in Google Maps directions. The second thing was the upstairs room - I suggest staff offer to bring bags to the room as there is no elevator.
Very comfortable, attractive and well appointed room with balcony, great breakfast and dinner from small Italian restaurant, peaceful location away from main ports but accessible by island bus, nice staff.

I like to rent the electric bikes in front of the boat and they transport our luggage to the hotel ( same company). The hotel is near the beach, and the breakfast was very good.
