Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

New ZealandMy stay at Asan Kotonami was nothing short of extraordinary! Spending one night in this traditional ryokan was an unforgettable experience. Everything about the stay was perfect, from the serene ambiance to the impeccable service. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the food. The traditional 10-course meals provided a cultural experience unlike any other. Each dish was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, making it a feast for both the palate and the eyes. It was a culinary journey that left me wishing I had booked at least two nights so I could indulge in these amazing meals again and again. What impressed me even more was the accommodation's accommodation of our gluten-intolerant guest. It's rare to find such thoughtfulness and flexibility in Japan, and it made our stay even more enjoyable knowing that everyone's dietary needs were taken care of. Next time I visit, I'll definitely plan for a longer stay at Asan Kotonami. This place is a gem that offers an authentic and immersive experience into Japanese culture and hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone looking to create lasting memories during their stay in Japan.

JapanWe stayed two nights and would've liked some choice for breakfast but only Japanese style breakfast was offered. This was beautifully presented and fresh but just not what we felt like for breakfast as it had a lot of sardine type fish, sour fruits and raw meats. We asked if we could have a fruit plate for our second breakfast but they declined.
Beautiful surroundings and room. Wonderful view and gardens. Really lovely staff. Fabulous dinner included. Public bath was great.

Hong KongA bit dark at outdoor Onsen, prefer brighter lighting especially the front is a forest with branches. The dinner taste quite good but not with big surprises. Some starters & main dishes got very similar look & tastes. Drinks need extra charge 😕
The Japanese breakfast is well prepared, only missing some western options. The taste of the breakfast will be a bit similar to the dinner in my opinion. I also don’t like to eat in the room, though it’s private. For vacation, we prefer to seat next to window with more outdoor view, to feel more relaxing !

United KingdomA menu with a basic English translation would have been helpful for us, as we weren’t quite sure what we were eating some of the time (although we understand that English speaking guests would be a tiny minority). Also, there was so much food we struggled to do it justice. However, the restaurant staff were extremely attentive.
Asan Kotomani is beautiful complex and we loved our room, outdoor spa area and the facilities in general. We also enjoyed dressing up in the traditional clothing provided! The staff were all lovely and offered very good and friendly service.

United States of AmericaWe wished we stayed longer and we wished the karaoke room is up and running again, but maybe it was for the better that it's closed due to COVID.
Our family loved our stay at Asan Kotonami. Everything about this place was wonderful. From picking us up from the station, the comfort of the room, the private bath we had in our room, the incredible view all around, and especially the attention to detail of the staff. The door that separate the private bath to the second outdoor seating area was jammed but the staff fixed it before we had a chance to let them know that it was jammed while we were out exploring the area. We appreciate this level of service. They also let us use the shuttle bus to and from the Kotohira for pick up and exploring the town since there's not many guests while we're there. The hotel was located in a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains, clean river, singing birds, and amazing garden all around. The hotel is a modern Ryokan with beautiful setting and modern design architecture. We appreciate the interior design of the style, it's very comfortable and beautiful at the same time without loosing the Japanese touch at all. The staffs made the place even more special. They worked hard to provide above and beyond service. The overall stay was very relaxing and comfortable. Arigatou gozaimashita, Asan Kotonami! We'll be back!

United KingdomThe set menu for each meal is great value and gives you a real flavour of the local food and it’s beautifully put together. For breakfast though, it can feel a bit too formal and it would be nice to choose your own menu for breakfast as not everyone wants a big meal at that time of day.
Beautiful hotel in a great location, fantastic food, staff and onsen.

JapanFood was ok. Some items were pretty interesting, but the rest was pretty average... and you do pay a lot for this property, so I expected a bit more. And for the countrysides of Shikoku, I do have to say that it is a bit overpriced (probably because it's close to Kotohira & it's part of a chain belonging to an Awaji Island hotel group). If you had a car and didn't already stay in Iya Valley, I would look towards those options if you want the same experience for less in price point. Also the rooms could use more plugs in more corners of the room. I travelled solo so I didn't need so many plugs, but there were only two outlets (one had multiple USB ports for charging) in the room so I can see how that might be a struggle if more people stayed in my room.
The staff were all super friendly. I did not put in my gender when I booked, so they mistakenly prepared men's amenities and yukata for me - however, the staff were extremely quick to rectify the mistake & really went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable. I used Japanese with the staff, but there are lots of foreign staff & it seems even some Japanese staff can also speak English - so language should not be an issue! Great coffee & tea selection in room and the onsen was very comfortable. If you're here in December like I was, I highly recommend driving over to Sanuki Manno Park for illuminations before or after dinner. Let your staff/servers know you plan on doing this and they'll recommend a good time for your included dinner meal.
