Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Ryokan Roka is a lovely, contemporary Ryokan an easy walk from the town of Honmaru, where the Art House Project is. The food is wonderful, which is a bonus because it is HARD to find good food on the island. We had a shiatsu massage and loved the hot soak tub in the suite. Excellent staff.

AustraliaRoka Ryokan is a must if you plan to stay on Naoshima. My partner and I stayed in the deluxe ryokan in March 2024 which was absolutely beautiful. I would recommend this time of year where it’s not too cold to cycle around the island, however you can open up the doors and have the cool air enter the onsen area. The dinner included within the room was a highlight of the trip, where the beautifully curated menu showcased some of Japan’s best cuisine. We had a very special time here and will remember it forever!

AustraliaAll the food was fantastic and of a very high quality. They were able to provide for specific dietary requirements. The room was exquisite and the hotel won an architecture award last year. The staff were helpful and very responsive. Would Iove to stay there again. Location was walking distance to Chichu Museum.

Beautiful design. Private and luxury rooms/baths. Great meals. Knowledgeable and attentive staff. This should be a perfect 5 star review from everyone that has stayed here. It’s a new hotel so maybe some of the early reviews were from them working out opening issues. But our stay was perfect. They provide e-bikes and an on demand shuttle service across the whole island. Location is also very walkable to everywhere if you want to do that.

Hong KongNothing to do with the hotel, but that night was very windy. The wind kept rattling the entrance door, so I could not sleep well as I am a light sleeper in general. The bathroom facing the mountain with floor to ceiling glass window gave me an onsen open feeling. It was clean and the temperature was very comfortable. It is surely safe and they assured no-one is outside, but I was shy to be totally naked in that environment. I drove a rental car to the hotel, and it was challenging to find a narrow street from the main road. I will ask for pick up service from the ferry terminal next time as they are so kind.
All staffs were amazing. Email communications was very smooth before the trip too. They are so friendly with high quality guest service manner and care. The staffs are from various countries, and they speak English. The foreign staffs speak wonderful Japanese too. A staff took us to buy lunch, took us to the museum, picked us up and completely took care of us and our needs. Dinner - it was wonderful. I was with my elderly mother, so requested less salt. All the food was so flavourful with Umami. I really wish I could go there again.

United States of AmericaIt is a ryokan so noise can travel. For the most part, very quiet, though you can occasionally hear other guests who forget to use their indoor voices (mostly Americans I'm sad to say).
This was the epitome of a modern ryokan--nods to the traditional with all the updated requirements. Beautiful aesthetic, amazing facilities, delicious food, and incredibly attentive staff. This really was a perfect stay.

Switzerland-
Beautiful Ryokan, great and very attentive staff, excellent service, outstanding food - a very well deserved 10/10 and we hope to come back again soon! Location of the Ryokan is great to explore the whole island by foot or bycicle. The sushi dinner was the best sushi we had during one month in Japan. The room with the traditional onsen bath is beautifully designed and the attention to details was much appreciated - pure relaxation! Make sure to plan some time to enjoy the Ryokan itself next to exploring the art on the island

AustriaThe rooms where not well sound proofed, which I guess it is hard to do in a Japanese traditional construction
Beautiful structure with large rooms, luxurious bathroom and private terrace. Dinner was a traditional saiseki Japanese meal and absolutely delicious. After dinner we had a night cap by the open fireplace. A great location from which to visit the whole island of Naoshima and the ryokan offers a comprehensive shuttle service.

AustraliaNaoshima Ryokan Roka is hands down the best place we stayed in Japan. The accommodation is stunning, tucked away and surrounded by trees. The rooms and shared spaces were beautiful and the private bath was enjoyed many times. We were also able to use Roka's E-bikes which allowed us to explore Naoshima with ease. The staff were exceptional - incredibly thoughtful, friendly and respectful and are without a doubt Roka's biggest assets.
