Enchanting Stay at the Sherman Inn: A Unique Blend of Comfort, History, and Warm Hospitality

The price-quality relationship is unbeatable: I've visited several hotels in the U.S., and undoubtedly, this has probably been the most memorable. We visited Ogdensburg just because we saw this interesting accommodation, and at every point, we were surprised. We thought that visiting and staying in a hotel that was previously a school was a great idea, but we found that there was much more that made this place special. As soon as we entered, we noticed the adorable Christmas decorations that were in every space of the school. Jim greeted us with a big smile and asked if we wanted him to give us a guided tour of the place or just show us the room. I couldn't resist the history, and Jim enthusiastically showed us around, adding historical facts about the school and Ogdensburg. It was truly interesting, and I don't think there are more suitable people to bring this hotel to life than them. What better than to sleep in a hotel that was a school with people so passionate about the history and the place it's located? I couldn't ask for more. The room was enormous, and I'm not exaggerating. For this price, here you get two or three times the room size offered in other places. After all, your room is the size of a classroom! The walls are incredibly thick, so it's very unlikely that you'll hear any noise. The decoration in each room is different, and you can see and feel the dedication put into each one—all of them are adorable. The room had a lovely Christmas tree; each room had one, each with different decorations. This detail added an even warmer touch, and I regret not spending Christmas here. On the second floor, they have a well-equipped kitchen available for Sherman Inn visitors. And of course, we used it! It made our stay comfortable as if we were at home. Breakfast was delicious. The owners were there to attend to us, and they were truly available for any questions.

Charming renovated school, themed decor of Presidents who visited Ogdensburg. We stayed in the Teddy Roosevelt room decor was rustic Adirondack with pictures and the speech he gave in Ogdensburg. The hosts Jim and Donna are wonderful full of great information and the breakfast is beyond description “Delish” we can’t say enough about what a great place it is to stay!

Sherman Inn is a quaint, spacious redecorated school that hosts enormous bedrooms with carefully selected antiques and collectibles. The facilities were so quiet, that we did not hear the other guests. The hosts, Jim and Donna, were most welcoming and shared the histories of their lovely town. Excellent stay, just moments from the Canada/US border.

    Loved everything

Wonderful accommodation. We were given an informative & amusing tour by Jim who showed us 3 of the beautifully decorated rooms. A lot of thought & consideration has gone into the styling & history of each room. The beds were extremely comfortable with soft, warm linen. The rooms were large & would easily accommodate a family. It's located in a quiet street with plenty of parking onsite. As the building was double walled it provided a peaceful sleep. Donna cooked a delicious breakfast of waffles & fresh fruit. Endless tea & coffee provided with a story from Jim. Would highly recommend staying here. Wonderful hosts & history to this school building.

The host greeted us as we arrived. It was all decorated for Halloween! Took us for a tour of the building and explained about the presidents that had stopped in town. Showed us to our beautiful room and let us be. Smelled the wonderful breakfast that was being served. But chose to sleep in. Beds were very comfortable. Don’t believe we even locked our room. Also told us about restaurants in the area.

I made a mistake with this property - I should have booked to stay longer

I have never stayed in premises as good as this. Everything about it was excellent very large and well fitted out bedroom - very good breakfast - host so helpful in every way. Breakfast with other guests or one separate table. Other guests very entertaining and informative. Each bedroom themed to former president with information on them and books on local history. For what you get the price is incredible. If in this area again would definitely stay here even if I had to change my dates.

Huge bright room with luxurious beds and linens and plenty of space to spread out and relax. Loved exploring the books and artwork around the room which provided history about Theodore Roosevelt (for whom our room was named) and his contemporary Frederick Remington. The owners were delightfully friendly and helpful and breakfast was delicious! My husband and I agreed it was the best french toast we'd ever tasted!!

This is an actual school converted into a B&B, and each classroom is now a room, resulting in huge, and finely decorated, hotel rooms. Kids also have a huge playroom and a swimming pool to play in.

    Nothing.

Jim and Donna are great hosts. To list this property as a double queen room is not accurate. you have a very large room with two queen beds plus a huge seating area plus other amenities such as a complete kitchen. The breakfast was great, I have been all over the world and I have had no better experience anywhere. The only regret is we were on a motorcycle tour and only had one night to stay. This is a historical building in a historical location. It would be great to be here for a few days to explore all the area has to offer.
