We stayed in the cottage behind the main house, which turned out to be a lovely retreat in a cute mountain town. Jean and Jim have done a great job renovating this historic home.

We've stayed at many, many B & Bs over the last 23 years and the Stamford is in our top 5: super friendly hosts (first time they actually sat down and ate breakfast with us..... informative and entertaining) comfortable bed and linens, lovely room, down home cooking. Stamford is a sleepy little scenic town so don't expect a lively night life..... but that wasn't the point of our trip. The nearby Mill Pond restaurant featured the owner on his acoustic guitar for great entertainment and a fabulous menu. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend!

Extremely friendly host! Gave us recommendations on things to do in Stamford, and even helped us track down some old family connections in the area. Amazing experience and very appreciative.

I thought the actual town could have been better, other towns nearby were much more scenic and had some interesting structures. Samford is adequate but others in area would seem better. The room was a bit noisy with the traffic on adjacent highway.

Very nice B&B with good location and very well kept. The Breakfast was excellent and proprietor very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and history of the home. Parking was easy and several places to eat nearby. The area is very scenic. Recommendation for Italian Restaurant down the road proved to be a real winner with good food and very friendly and prompt service.

    Nothing.

The hosts Jean and Jim were great, we really appreciated their friendliness and hospitality and making time to talk with each guest. They had a great selection of kcups and teas and fresh cookies when we arrived. The twin beds were extremely comfortable and clean. The bathroom shower had good water pressure and very good soap. The breakfast options were delicious and healthy, I had scrambled eggs, sausage, home fries, and toast. The premises are beautiful and the outside patio is a great place to unwind and enjoy the fresh air. The area is also very scenic and calm, the town has some cute shops and nice cafes. Thank you again.

We were looking for a place to stay overnight on our way home from a vacation and had the great good fortune to make a reservation at the Stamford Gables B&B in Stamford, a small town in the foothills of New York’s Catskill mountains. Stamford Gables, one of just a few lodgings in the area, is set well back from Main Street on a lovely expanse of grounds. Jean, our hostess (and co-owner, with her husband, Jim) welcomed us and gave us a choice of three available spacious, beautifully furnished rooms. We chose Hattie’s room, with a comfortable king-sized bed and a lovely bay window, looking out on the grounds. The rooms had every imaginable convenience, including WiFi and large, well-appointed bathrooms. The house is a real gem, faithfully restored by Jim from near-collapse to superbly updated 1850s-period elegance. (Check out the website for the house’s interesting history.) The breakfasts, prepared to order by Jean, were excellent. Jean and Jim were very friendly and forthcoming with interesting local lore. The B&B can be full, particularly during special occasions, so reservations are strongly recommended. We’ll be back.

Stamford Gables proved to be a charming, comfortable, and welcoming home away from home. Not only was our hosts accommodating they were talented in every arena, from culinary masterpieces to musical performances at a nearby local restaurant - this dynamic duo has it all. This Bed & Breakfast is everything and more. Close to multiple ski slopes too!
