The pool was nice, but frigid, in April. I don't know if it's unheated or just not turned on, I didn't ask. My room was missing a few of the room service request indicators (magnets to put on the door). I wish the restaurant had opened a little earlier or closed later - never got to try it, and it seems like it would be a cool place to hang out late into the evening. Room prices are a bit high in my opinion, and the additional charge for parking was a bit unexpected, given that the hotel has a dedicated garage.

Very hip design-focused hotel with lots of nice "bonuses" like a powerful bluetooth speaker in the room, plenty of shelves, racks and hooks, stocked mini-bar, free bike rental, cafe on site, etc. I appreciated the communication via text message (like a normal person...) and the flexibility on check-in time and some other adjustments I had to make to my reservation. Awesome location for driving to Austin-area sights, though it is a bit of a hike to downtown (Uber/Lyft is cheap here, and it's an easy pick-up/drop-off spot).

The bed wasn’t comfortable nor was it uncomfortable. It was right in between. For the price of the stay, I’d expect a more cozy bed. The pillows left a lot to be desired too. I know this is subjective so I’ll try to explain: The bed was firm (not too firm) but didn’t have a cozy/comfortable feel to it and the pillows had no substance to them. They were very flat and lifeless. I had to ball one up to try to create a decent amount of fluff under my head. My room was above a dog boarding facility and my neighbors barked a lot but They were quiet at night.

I loved the hotel layout, open air hallways, coffee shop and lounge/work areas. It was clean, beautiful and serene. The location was perfect. The pool relaxing. The tile in the bathroom was clean and beautiful. I liked having a balcony.

We booked the hotel during a busy time so the price was quite high. I love the hotel so much I booked it anyway.

This is my second stay at the Carpenter Hotel and even though it was more expensive than other properties, I chose to stay here again because the staff is awesome, the coffee shop/bar is excellent, the design if unusual, clean and appealing and the neighborhood is perfect for staying in a quiet part of town that is a short and beautiful 15 minute walk over or along the river to restaurants, coffee shops and shopping. I will be back!

The bed was not the most comfortable. Not bad, but not luxurious like a hotel bed can be.

The service at the Carpenter was fantastic, especially Manny at the front desk and Zach in the restaurant. The buildings were beautiful and well maintained. The food in the restaurant and cafe were every good if a bit pricy. It was easy to work from the outdoor patio and cafe.

It was expensive and parking wasn’t included, but that’s to be expected from such a unique place in the area.

The whole property was part of the overall aesthetic—mod and hip meets vintage building. So many cool little touches everywhere we looked. Like a retreat from the city in the city.

    1) no water bottles in the entire hotel for free or for purchase. Nothing. There was filtered water dispensed at the front but it was frequently empty and difficult to fill an entire water bottle with. They have a mini bar for purchase in the room but no water bottles in there. 2) The beds are kind of hard. Everyone that we were traveling with agreed. Several woke up with some shoulder pain. Even a pillow top cover would serve them well.

Beautiful design of the hotel and thoughtful amenities. 1) They don't have a gym but they gave me free passes to go to an amazing gym down the street (Capital Hill Fitness 8mins by car) which was far better than a standard gym. 2) The restaurant is amazing here. One of our favorites in Austin. The coffee shop is also wonderful. 3) Very cute gift shop at the front and the front desk workers are so helpful and kind. 4) the environment is very calming and aesthetically pleasing.

On-site parking is limited although nearby paid public parking (uncovered and garaged) within a block or two of the hotel exists. Plan accordingly. Festival dates will make parking in the area more constrained.

The location of the Carpenter Hotel is within walking distance of Zach Theatre, P. Terry's Burgers, Starbuck's, Peter Pan Miniature Golf, and Lady Bird Lake Hike and Bike Trail: There's a LOT to do in the neighborhood! The onsite restaurant, Carpenters Hall, was delicious, locally-sourced innovative Texas fare. The covered patio between it and the lovely pool provided a welcome shaded, greed oasis on a 100+ F September afternoon. The open-air, breezeways festooned by ceiling fans between rooms was an innovative, eco-friendly design that more hotels should consider using. The outdoor shaded stairwell made using the stairs between floors a healthy, elevator-neglecting temptation. Whether you're looking to explore the South Austin District or hole up at a friendly, unique local hotel for a weekend of romance, the Carpenter Hotel will deliver hospitable service in a casual yet elevated way.

We requested a room cleaning after two days and the cleaning staff did nothing but make the bed. No effort to tidy up and wipe down surfaces. Kids were obnoxious and loud in the pool, they were splashing guests, it was disruptive to many guests. Staff should limit non-guests using the proper for this reason, as there was no respect for the tranquility of the space.

Minimalist, modern, and warm. This property exceeded our expectations, especially at such a great price point. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Austin. A short drive from downtown, a quick walk to South Congress, the location is great. The property has a certain charm to it with very intentional details that brighten your stay. The restaurant & coffee shop are wonderful. The pool is so relaxing (minus kids being obnoxious). Lovely stay.
