Home to one of America’s icons – the Golden Gate Bridge – San Francisco is a liberal city where life is very much for the living.
Surrounded by water on 3 sides, the city's spread over steep hills that make for great photo ops. And none better than the zig-zag Lombard Street, seen in many a film. Even more famous are San Fran's iconic trolleys climbing the hills – a little touristy, but still worth a ride.
In the middle of the bay, Alcatraz island is known for the notorious criminals once imprisoned there. Even if you don’t go inside, the views of the bridge and city are unparalleled.
Nowhere is life in San Francisco more laid-back than on the Pacific beaches. Rent a bike and head out there, passing through the huge Golden Gate Park, before returning to sample some fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. Don't miss the clam chowder served in bread bowls! Chinatown also has a great selection of mid-range restaurants.
As you fly into San Francisco Airport, look out for the exclusive homes lining the Bay Area. Whether you want a more independent stay in apartments, luxury San Francisco hotels or cheap hostels, Booking.com has something for everyone. Be careful though – you might just leave your heart here!
Hayes Valley is a fun, beautiful area in San Francisco.
Hayes Valley is a fun, beautiful area in San Francisco. It’s a great area to stay to visit SF Jazz, SF Opera, the Asian Art Museum and so much more. The restaurants and shopping are varied and often pretty memorable, making you want to return. Walking around the neighborhood, you’ll find a few nice parks full of people just enjoying their day.

We drove and left our rental in the underground parking at the hotel it was expensive to park but the Riu Fisherman’s Wharf was a very nice hotel with a fantastic breakfast buffet included.
We pre booked Alcatraz tickets and a boat cruise for the following day both were great and should be booked well in advance. We enjoyed the touristy Fishermans wharf area, food was expensive everywhere. We had a great ride on the hop on hop off bus which took us around town and over the Golden Gate Bridge the bus driver was great and tells you good spots to get off or Not. We then hoped on the historic trolley which took us back to Fishermans Wharf. We spent 3 days in San Francisco which I felt was great. I wouldn’t go walking outside after dark and know where the unsafe areas of the city are.

You have to know what areas are safe to walk or travel through. We walked and were out at night until 1am, no issues, but one of us knows the area. There are homeless everywhere even near our hotel by the peir, but most are not looking to bother you. Family friendly during daytime.

The city has made great strides in cleaning the streets.
The city has made great strides in cleaning the streets. For the size of the crowd (several hundred thousand, for sure), everything worked well! We did not see anything that made us feel unsafe walking around... and we walked 7 miles that night while viewing the parade and also navigating around it to visit Chinatown. Everyone seemed to be very excited to celebrate Chinese New Year!
We stayed for 3 nights and the bed was probably the most comfortable, softest bed I have ever slept in - amazing! Our room was at the front of the hotel so I feared street noise, but actually it was so quiet considering the location in a city. It was nice waking up to hear the bell of the trolley cars going by the end of the road. The location is perfect for walking around the Union Square area and in close proximity are many options for food and drink. The hotel also smelled fresh and clean.
Top class Hotel! Staff extremely friendly! If we plan to visit San Fran again, this hotel would be our choice!
Located in the center, close to Union Square, you have everything nearby. And if you are lucky enough to get a hotel room in floor 26 (like we did :-)), you can enjoy a breathtaking view! Free Gym in floor 35 makes even the training super easy!
When it comes to San Francisco, safety is a topic; by choosing this hotel, you don't have to worry about any safety concerns.
The room was roomy enough, had a comfortable bed, nice shower amenities and the location of the hotel is great! Close to Union Square, lots of good restaurants (Matador - Mexican, Pinecrest - 24hr diner) and bars (John Foley's, The Irish Bank, Zombie Village). Loved the Beat Generation vibe of the hotel and the cool decorations and quotes around the room, hallways and lobby area. PLUS the attached BlueStone Coffee shop has a great cold brew!
We stayed at this hotel as part of our honeymoon. The reception staff were fantastic. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and the view over union square was great, especially at Christmas with the decorations and ice rink. The tram stop is a minute away which provided great links to the wharf area. We recommend jumping off at Washington st on route for the best coffee at coffee movement 😀. In summary, a great hotel in a great location.
This hotel is an old building with a lot of character. The room was quite spacious and had a kitchenette which was very handy with a small fridge and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and the reception area had comfy leather sofas and was a nice place to spend time whilst waiting to go to the airport. The location is good, a short walk to Union Square and there are good bar and restaurant options nearby plus a superette next door.
Good location on the Union Square edge of Chinatown and a 20 minute walk to North Beach and SOMA. The hotel feels boutique-y and smaller than it is, with rooms that are nicely appointed and a very comfy bed. While we were in town there was the annual Lunar Festival a few blocks over so the area was especially lively with street carnivals, food and musical performances.
First of all, great location, union square is central and safe! The hotel was very nicely furnished and the room was clean, spacious and it even came with a fireplace that you can simply flip a switch to turn it on and off! Also with the compliment breakfast and wine/snack time in the afternoon, it is overall great value for a short stay in San Francisco.
Great location right between Union Square and Market. It was right near a BART station which helped us get around. The hotel was super quiet even though it was in a busy area—a nice steakhouse restaurant across the street. The hotel is super clean, lobby, rooms, hallway, etc. The room was great and perfect for solo travelers.
The hotel has the best position ever, at the beginning of 4th Street, right next to Market Street and very close to the Financial District and Union Square. The complimentary coffee they serve in the morning is really good. They provide plenty of towels and toiletries.
Quite a nice little find in San Francisco Union Square area. It's like a French pension transplanted into the city, with all the charm and coziness you'd expect from a pension, including some rooms with gas fireplaces and a cozy breakfast area in the lower floor.
Great hotel, with perfect location in Union Square. So close to shops and various transport options. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The bar area is intimate and a great extra. I appreciated the added extras the hotel provided and the value of the stay.
Cute boutique hotel in the heart of Union Square. Very basic hotel, but it has all the necessities. Staff were friendly, it was comfortable, and fairly priced. Not very spacious, but understandably so since it is a historic building in the heart of downtown.
Good value in comparison to most hotels in the area (union square/financial district/mission district). Boutique hotel with renovations of an old building, has the basic amenities. Staff were very friendly and responsive.
Very polite staff, the room and bathroom where clean. There is also free breakfast at the hotel; not the best one, but at least there is. The position is Excellent! It's just around the corner from union square.
Hotel is located in a quiet Street in downtown. 3 blocks to union square. Bus stop is at the door.
The suite is very clean with high standard upgrade. The staff is very helpful.
the location is the best, overlooking the center of the city - Union Square, very convenient. the hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are newly renovated, we enjoyed the stay!
Very comfortable apartment, well located close to union square but on a quiet street. Clean and tidy, very good service. Best place for a family in San Francisco.
The bed was very comfortable and the view was phenomenal. The location was central if you want to be in the downtown / union square area near market st.
