The Elopura Hotel located on the East Coast of Sabah which also known as “Land below the Wind”. Elopura name itself was the first name of Sandakan when it was found by William B Prier back in 1879.

Our room had a comfortable bed and three chairs. We love chairs in a hotel room. We enjoy sitting in chairs and not on the bed. There is space for luggage. Nice bathroom with separate shower and tub. The room was clean. We loved looking out on the pool… beautiful view.
The restaurants were all very good. We enjoyed each one. Good food. Great staff!
Pool staff were helpful and friendly.
All the staff from concierge to front desk were wonderful. The housekeeping staff was great.
We had a wonderful stay. Thank you.

First of all, there is no shop to buy the SIM card in Sandakan Airport, the nearest place is 7/11 which is in 5 min by taxi. Next stage of the quest is that you will need to ask someone to share the Wi-Fi with you since you must register your SIM card by yourself online. Perhaps, buying the SIM card in Kota Kinabalu will be the best option.
If you are going to Sukau area, do not consider buying U Mobile SIM card - it will not work there completely.
I would not recommend to have a food at any of restaurants at the seafront: meals will be overpriced and in most of the cases not even edible.
Tours to Bornean bear and orangutan parks will be at least 3x cheaper for you than suggested by TripAdvisor if you will just use Grab taxi to reach it: both parks are located at the same place. Firefly tour is also costly and not really impressive: do not expect to see too much, if you cannot resist to go there.
Pasir Putih Beach could be nice place if the beach was visible under the layers of garbage. Don't recommend to waste your time for it.
There are a lot of beggar kids at the central area. I don't know if they can steal anything, but I guess it makes sense to be careful.

Sandakan is not a city brimming with character and charm. It is OK and you can find a small number of nice enough places to eat and drink, if you set your mind to it. I would not want to have stayed there more than one day and I won’t be going back anytime soon.

We used Sandakan as the gateway to Turtle Island and the Kinabatangan River. We had lunch in a central hotel which was fine, not a lot for vegetarians but the service was good.
We could have spent a little longer there, it seems easy to get around.

Great little town, wouldn’t spend more than a day or two here unless you were using as a base to go and see the orangutans and rainforest discovery centre or island tours.
Great water front dinners. Shopping mall and grocery store close to water front. Nice vibe.

It’s my home town and I have lots of fond memories. Fresh seafood paradise and amazing mixed cuisine with traditional Chinese, Malaysian food and Indian dishes. Everything in the food market is super cheap and fresh.
The town centre is looking undeveloped and unloved.

Not much to do in the town or much to see and nowhere very nice places to eat/drink. Unfortunately it is quite run down so book a decent hotel to stay in and make the most of the experiences available in the area.
I have booked this hotel through the Booking.com. The hotel staff has called for double confirmation. Since the hotel room was full, the staff upgraded my room to a queen bed type. The staff is very responsible and helpful. The room is big and the bed is very comfortable. The toilet is also clean and big. There is wifi and it is guaranteed in terms of security because every tenant will be given a door passcode. The price is worth it. Easy to park a car. I will book this hotel again if I come to Sandakan. The best!
My new favourite place on Earth! No words can explain how amazing this place is! Amazing location for exploring the rainforest and Sandakan. Luxury facilities, surrounded by nature. Lovely helpful staff (shout out to Ru!) and great food. Really stunning place! If you need a guide contact Safar 00 60 11 4048 5579 and ask reception for Azahar who’s driven us around Sandakan. Everyone’s taken a great care of us!
New, clean, with all standard amenities, nice neighborhood, many eateries nearby, friendly staff. Although Sepilok is better to stay, but if there are no rooms available there in the price range you can afford, Hotel Prima location is much better than Sandakan city center - it is 15 min drive closer to Sepilok and the neighbourhood is so much better than the city center, more clean, safe, and quite.
My husband and I had a great one-night stay at the Elopura! The room was clean, quiet after 10 p.m. (it was loud with music right outside until then), and modern. We had a sea view which was lovely. The location was right next to the mall and seafood restaurants. It was also wonderful having Netflix set up in the room. The breakfast was fine. Definitely recommended for a short stay.
The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating. I work remote and after getting to the resort, found out the wifi didn’t work and I had no cell service (U mobile has no coverage here). the wonderful hotel staff let me use their hotspots so I could get work done. the price seems high for the area, but it was clean, the food was good, and the river was close.
Large clean, well air-conditioned, comfortable room and bathroom. Nice pool. Excellent food for dinner and breakfast in restaurant.
We were impacted by the eruption of an Indonesian volcano - the hotel staff were very helpful in resolving issues with our flight out, ensuring in the end that we were able to make our onward connections to return home.
Perfect for a night in Sandakan. We were in town in between Kota Kinabalu and our Kinabatangan River Safari. The hotel was located right next to where we would be picked up and plenty comfortable for the cheap price. The staff were friendly. Would stay again if we stop in Sandakan
I like this place very cheap if u book online and the room is big. Nice and clean... how many times already I stay here.. I'm very recommended this place , hotel very near to all restaurant Starbucks, mcd and bataras .. Next time when we go sandakan we actually book this hotel .
I had my best sleep in Sandakan here, the bed was great- firm but not hard- loved it.
The view is lovely and the location of this place is great- although in the middle of a busy area, the rooms are quiet and relaxing.
A superb hotel a 6 minute walk away from the Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Very spacious and well-equipped wooden lodges in the middle of the rainforest. Very nice staff and great food in the restaurant.
Fine place in Sandakan! Nice big appartment in a nice complex. The 18th floor was amazing, nice view!! Very clean, loved the soft bed sheets, lots of space! Can recommend to everyone!
