Fabulous place if you love the beach, walking, eating and drinking. We particularly like Bar 1869 for drinks and snacks, Kairos Bistro for fish, Can Galan for cheerful quick meals and a bit of history. The walk out to San Marti d’empurias is a must or use the land train if to far to walk- full of great restaurants. Les Musceleres Beach bar just past the ruins is our favourite lunch spot- excellent food with your toes in the sand if you want.

L'Escala is a quiet beach resort with mostly French tourists (some staff had limited English but were very friendly and willing to help, and welcoming with children!). The Riells beach is large and clean with soft sand, there is a smaller beach in the nearby Old Town. It can be windy. The funfair/amusement park is not open until June. A car is useful, but there is also a tourist train going to Montgo beach and Empuries medieval village (both beautiful!)

a very beautiful town, some places reminded Greece, white houses, clear sea, seagulls everywhere. Water was cold in May but lots of people swam. Long promenade along the beaches, full of restaurants and bars for any taste, lots of rocks by the shore for kids to climb on.
Centre of the village isn't accessible for cars, so we had to carry luggage with us from the parking.
We stayed in the centre, it is lively until very late in the evening, lots of people and dogs walking, kids playing.
We liked all restos we ate at, maybe Glop was overrated, we had to reserve table in advance and it was nothing special at all, burger wasn't great. Italian place Tagliatella was much better, thinnest crust pizzas I ever tried

L'Escala is a lovely town, we stayed in the old town at the northern end which has more charm and ambience that the newer part near the port which is more like a standard resort with large holiday apartment blocks. The standard of the restaurants in general is very good. To really appreciate the locality it probably is best to hire a car. However, it is possible to enjoy visiting L'Escala without one also. We visited Figures, Girona, the Roman and Greek ruins in Empuries and also the pretty little village of St. Marti D'Empuries without a car.

This was my fifth visit to l'Escala.
This was my fifth visit to l'Escala. A lovely town, great for walking/cycling excursions. Lots of beaches, woodland and the ruins of Empuries. Coastal walks to the south, old coastal defence bunkers, secluded coves...there's plenty to do and see here. A wide variety of restaurants and bars, all within easy walking distance. Well worth visiting.

Very nice sea, especially for those who like snorkelling.
Very nice sea, especially for those who like snorkelling. The deep sea offers you various kind of fish who just do not escape from you. I had also seen this kind of fish friendship in Hurgada (Egypt). Very nice spot to moore for yachts. The next time I'll hire a yacht and moore in this bay. The nature is wild, windy and mostly rocky. The only sand is accumulated inside the bay where people enjoy sunbathing and swimming. The vicinity of L'Escala is plenty of attractions. One can climb to tower of Montgo (Torre de Montgo) to see the bay from high. Spectacular view. The restaurant Can Miquel is one of the best in the bay, but one needs to make a booking at least from 2-3 days before to take a table in outside.

Lovely room, simply but elegantly styled. Excellent shower! Great location and uncovered paying parking right in front of hotel - free for four hour lunch period. Polite, charming and efficient staff.
Could not fault this hotel. Good welcome at check in. Good size room and balcony. Spotless. Great breakfast buffet. Huge selection, freshly ground coffee machine. Thoroughly recommend.
Excellent coastal location close to both L'Escala and Sant Marti.
Lovely hotel and helpful staff. Delicious and well presented food dishes and a good selection of drinks. Nice bedrooms.
The hotel is in an excellent position as I use the bus to get there from and back to Girona. The breakfast is excellent, and yhe beach is a few minutes walk away.
