A thoroughly liveable city, Melbourne has a buzzy vibe and an Aussie sense of fun. There’s always something going on, and one of its many festivals is Moomba – Australia’s largest free arts festival. Well worth a visit are the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Aquarium, whose highlight is walking through a clear tunnel as sharks swim over your head.
The city’s most recognisable landmark is Flinders Street Station, whose yellow and green façade matches the colour of the historic Melbourne trams that still run around the world’s longest tram network. Keep an eye out for the street art as you travel.
Shopping in Melbourne is fantastic. Queen Victoria Market is the largest open-air market south of the Equator, while the La Trobe Street shopping centre has over 300 stores. For food, don’t miss Little Italy - the Carlton area.
South of the Yarra River is St Kilda, home to the best beach and Albert Park, where the F1 Australian Grand Prix is held. However, this is not the city’s only sporting heritage. It’s also the home of Aussie Rules football and the MCG, a must-see for cricket fans.
Booking.com has a range of Melbourne accommodation from hotels to hostels and motels, some near Melbourne Airport.

We were very busy during our visit, there’s plenty to see and do - galleries, gardens, National Trust sites, museums, shops and roof-top bars. Don’t miss the Botanic Gardens, the Shrine of Remembrance, Fitzroy Gardens, etc. Good for a trip along the Great Ocean Road - take at least three days. Great variety of food outlets for all types of world cuisine. Cosmopolitan - lively - exciting.
The city is a clean place - limited amounts of litter. Not many chewing gum splodges on the streets!
Courtesy on the very convenient tram and bus services is noticeable - particularly if you are people of a certain age!

Unfortunately I was in Melbourne for a family medical emergency however having previously lived here I am fully aware of the wonderful sights and scrumptious food available in inner city Melbourne and was able to sample a little of each whilst here. Each hotel I stayed in was located along the tram tracks making transport super easy.

To see all the attractions it is easy to walk around you don’t need a car. Abundance of great restaurants. Highly recommend the buffet dining at the Langham Hotel and the Red Emperor Chines restaurant in Southgate. Walking tracks through the beautiful gardens and the informative cruises up the Yarra were all wonderful experiences. The variety of shopping from DFO to boutique shops all around the city.

We were visiting family in Phillip Island, so for us it was a wonderful trip to make just to spend time with our family. The driving was easy to and from the airport and when we stayed in the city it was easy to navigate around. Melbourne has definitely up graded since we were here last which was over 10yrs ago.

Melbourne has so much to do and see as long as the weather is on your side. Easy to negotiate on public transport and it has a very cosmopolitan feel for someone who lives in a warm regional centre. A lovely lunch at La Camera at Southbank. We popped into the Accidentally Wes Anderson photo exhibition on Bourke Street before heading home.

Best base from which to explore Melbourne. Apartments are huge and have balconies with expansive views over Flagstaff Gardens and the city skyline. In so many other CBD hotels you just feel boxed in. Love being able to walk 10 mins for a breakfast with the locals in North Melbourne, or, walk 10 mins to Hardware Lane to catch a bus that will have you in Lygon St, Carlton, or the top of Smith and Brunswick streets in Collingwood/Fitzroy in under 20
mins. This is what Melbourne is all about: discoveries around every corner!
Our preferred mid-budget accommodation in Melbourne CBD. Very short walks to restaurants, cinemas, theatres, art galleries, etc. Comfortable spacious apartments with separate bedroom, lounges and well-provisioned kitchenette. Plenty of storage space for longer stays. Some upper floor apartments have city views. Reception staff are exceptional - very friendly and helpful.
The Hotel is very convenient located, very close to Uni Melbourne and in the edges of CBD, right next to Victoria Market. Reception open 24/7 is convenient and so is the possibility to leave your luggage before/after checking in/out. Rooms are comfortable and sheets are nice. Totally a plus the bonus of City Baths.
Arguably the best placed Hotel in Melbourne - central, on the River, easy walk to everything in Southbank & CBD
