Dubrovnik has a proud history but is now a tourist trap. If going expect to pay inflated prices for any expenditure from bottled water to meals and accommodation. That said, it is well worth a visit but all in all I preferred chilled out Split Truly a day and a half of visiting the crowded old city is more than enough so excursions beyond the city, or a beach day, whichever is your fancy are to be recommended. For a four day visit I would recommend day one, arrive, explore chill, day two book a guided city walls tour for as early in the day as you can manage (especially in the super hot summer) and a old city tour early afternoon. In the afternoon get a No4 bus to the beach. Day 3 do a day tour to visit either Montenegro or Mostar in Bosnia Herzevegonia, to see a second country and do any shopping at half Dubrovnik prices, day four final visits, maybe beach, and travel home. Dubrovnik is very hilly so be prepared to climb and know that google maps can find altitude a problem, "You have arrived" but your accommodation is nowhere to be seen, its above you up many flights of stairs!Guest review byCassidy - 8.0
Stayed in the old city.
Stayed in the old city. Must walk the Dubrovik wall in the early evening when it's not too hot. A great atmosphere. So many restaurants to choose from. May, early June is a good time to go. The temperature is cooler and not so many tourists around. It is worth visiting the island of Lokrum - only 10mins by ferry. We loved the old town.
We loved the old town. We also did a day tour to the Eliphate Islands and also another day trip to Montenegro. Definitely worth visiting. Keep in mind Dubrovnik (around the Old Town) is a very hilly city and so if you have mobility restrictions, select carefully where you stay as some options may not be suitable. Maybe I wasn’t there long enough, but it really seemed like lots of eating & shopping in an old town or on rocky beaches. The Wall was really just a long walk with a view, and I can’t believe they charge that much to walk it! All restaurants were kind of pricey. I just didn’t vibe with it, pretty as it is.
