Featuring free bikes, The Holiday Hut provides accommodations in Lightning Ridge. This apartment features free private parking and luggage storage space. This very quaint but spacious little hut has everything you could possibly need for any duration of stay. With the completion of a complete galvanised iron roof cover and veranda area, including outside dining setting, it is quite the package. Really enjoyed having my little outdoor fire and all the necessary conveniences and very comfortable double bed for a three night stay. Host is lovely and super helpful. The hut is completely off grid and linked to the main home solar and battery, so some power restrictions may apply but did not interfere with my use of the hut. It is air-conditioned via a split system and has gas stove for cooking. More homely than a motel and far better equipped. Thanks Marija, see you next time.

Providing a garden, BIG4 Opal Holiday Park offers accommodations in Lightning Ridge. Among the facilities at the property, there's also an outdoor swimming pool and outdoor fireplace. Great facilities. My kids especially loved the digging patch! We checked yesterday. This morning I was delighted to receive a phone from a lovely receptionist saying the cleaners found our naughty Snorlax who must’ve wanted to extend his stay and was hiding out in the cabin. The lady then advised me that I can send a prepaid envelope and they’ll send him back to us. His owner was most excited to hear this wonderful news. 10/10 recommend staying there.

Allow at least 5 days to comfortably do most of the sights. Do not miss the car door trips, especially the sunset. This was beyond brilliant and John Murray Gallery. Wow wow wow. It will be my first stop on our next visit.
Let's face it Lightning Ridge is not very scenic but people visit mainly for the mining aspect of things including the opal mines. And they are very interesting and there is plenty to learn about. And bevor I forget to mention it : Their IGA Supermarket is 5 Star rated in my eyes.
To visit the attractions in the area. On the way into the town call in to the Information Centre first. The staff are very helpful and will provide you with maps and flyers of the attractions to visit. There is a shop there to purchase souvenirs. The hotel has a large variety of meals and drinks. The town as a large IGA supermarket, petrol station, a post office and shops to purchase opal and other souvenirs.
Visiting the sculptures at the Chambers of the Black Hand - fascinating John Murray's art gallery is a must Lunatic Hill was interesting and some of the old buildings are full of history Food at the Bowling Club was excellent and the staff incredibly friendly
Loved lightening Ridge, every local we spoke to was enthusiastic, welcoming, some definitely a little quirky which added to the fun. So glad we went with a rellie who had a four wheel drive so could take us to some great spots , loved every minute of the adventure.!
We stayed two nights. Went on the Black Opal four hour tour, hosted by Pauline. It was a terrific way to understand local life at Lightning Ridge. Pauline know a LOT about the town and about opal mining, from first hand experience. We also visited the Black Hands art gallery, underground. Wow! That is an experience not to be missed.
