The location was excellent. Very near to the beach. The food was excellent. It was a good new year break for us. The indoor pool was awesome. They even offered a free water aerobics class which was fun. Our stay was very comfortable, the facilities were excellent.

Beautiful hotel, everything has been thought out to the detail, amazingly located in Falésia, with pine trees all over and beach 2 min walk with direct access. Very attentive staff and food is simply delicious, breakfast and also dinner. The spa has this zen feeling and staff is super friendly. The hotel was great but the difference was made by the staff! They are helpful, polite and discreet. Breakfast was brilliant and the restaurant had a great variety of fish and meat dishes. All following the Portuguese tradition with the chef’s twist. The hotel is walking distance from the beach.

We loved this resort.

We loved this resort. Lots of cafes and restaurants; wouldn't take TripAdvisor reviews at face value, as we went to the number one Indian restaurant; it was cheap, which reflected in the food. The large beach we went to by the marina was lovely; I would give Pizza Hut, which is situated in the marina, a wide berth food was terrible and very expensive. we booked a catamaran half-day cruise to Ponta da Piedade with lunch and unlimited drinks. The company was BlueFleet; highly recommend it. We also took the train to Albufeira for the day; glad we chose Lagos, not so busy and rowdy and better beaches. The price of food and drinks was not expensive, as I thought it would be, being on tha algrave coast.

Portimão is a fantastic destination.

Portimão is a fantastic destination. We especially loved Praia da Rocha, with its stunning golden beach, breathtaking coastline and beautiful cliffs. It was wonderful to walk along the beach and promenade, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere. There are also plenty of excellent restaurants and cafés within walking distance. It’s the perfect place to unwind and experience the best of the Algarve. We can’t wait to come back.

Faro isn't a great destination for tourists.

Faro isn't a great destination for tourists. It's a normal working city and not where you want to find yourself when it's hot. As cities go it's quite run down in a lot of areas and doesn't have a lot to offer. On Sunday especially it felt as though the whole city had been abandoned. Things were closed and boarded up and there just wasn't anyone around. Use Faro airport but be sure to base yourself somewhere prettier with great local beaches within walking distance of the old town - like Lagos.

Vilamoura is on the up.

Vilamoura is on the up. Money seems to be invested and it was noticeably cleaner and smarter than our previous visits. Its easy to get to from the airport - less than 30 minutes transfer - and the roads are good, plenty of parking, signposts perhaps less so! The marina is lovely, but can get quite busy, especially of an evening, but the wide choice of bars and restaurants mean prices are quite good value. If you go one or two streets back from the waterfront, the quality remains similar, but the prices drop too. Falesia beach is a lovely beach, probably the better of the two beaches either side of the marina, and The Thai Beach Club is great for lunch, daybeds, or dinner, and goes crazy at weekends!

The best part of Alvor is the restaurants, all reasonably priced and superb sea food. It's a small white washed fishing village. We went for a menu of the day at Alvor wine for 14 euros. We had a pate starter and some fresh seabas fillets plus a dessert!

I liked discovering cliff top paths and the views along the way Algar seco was very close by and we stumbled across it one evening on our way to eat in town…then were lucky enough to get a table (after a bit of a wait) at the Boneca restaurant which really does have one of the best views in the Algarve. Another good restaurant I’d recommend is The Lighthouse… fab food and the views to go with it!!

Tavira is a gorgeous town with a good selection of cafes and bars and handy train links to Faro and to the eastern border with Spain. It is a delightful, safe and a relaxing place to enjoy hanging out. Getting the ferry to the beautiful island beach was fun and we also enjoyed seeing the pink salt pans and spotting flamingos in the wild. The teenager even enjoyed a bit of shopping at the mall. I would recommend a visit to Tavira, but if staying for a week, also a car to explore further afield or gain access to activities. We found that although we could get the train to Faro and Olhão (both great) we were unable to get picked up to visit Benagil Caves or indulge the teenager with a jet ski or similar, or even go on a boat trip. Our favourite meals were at Nikita and Brisa do Rio in Tavira. Visiting Olhao on Saturday when the market was on was a fantastic atmosphere and the town had a lovely buzz with lots of small local shops to explore. Brilliant grilled fish lunch too! Final note, the teen asked ‘is this a place older people come to?’ I’d say yes, and a lot of Brits.

Quarteira is a beautiful and relaxing place with a lovely...

Quarteira is a beautiful and relaxing place with a lovely beach and stunning ocean views. The promenade is perfect for a walk, and there are plenty of restaurants and cafés to choose from. The locals and hotel staff were friendly, and I felt very welcome throughout my stay. The only downside was the extreme heat during my visit, but that's simply the weather and not the town itself. Overall, I had a wonderful holiday and would happily visit Quarteira again.

A lovely area.

A lovely area. We did not get to visit many places like we did last time as our daughter was in a wheelchair. My review of the area is based on last year when we stayed and stayed at a lovely Hotel in the area.
