In Guanajuato, a callejoneada is an evening of music, story and local colour that places you in the heart of the city’s colonial streets. The tradition dates from the mid-20th century and was inspired by old Spanish student groups. You’ll follow musical ensembles made up mainly of university students as they roam the city’s narrow alleys and open squares, singing popular songs and sharing local legends and anecdotes.

As you move through Guanajuato’s distinctive architectural landscape, the tight alleys and historic plazas will provide the backdrop for the performance. Along the way you’ll hear songs and hear stories that link to the region’s past. Callejoneadas began as student entertainment but over time have become one of the city’s main tourist attractions, helping to preserve a connection with local history, culture and popular art. The experience offers a vivid, living glimpse of Guanajuato’s traditions as they are still practised today.
