You may see Southern Right and Humpback whales, which leave their icy feeding grounds off Antarctica each year and migrate to mate and calve in the warmer Southern African waters. From June through to November or December, migrating whales are commonly sighted as they skirt the coastline on their way to the tropics. Knysna also offers year‑round viewing opportunities, with large pods of dolphins and regular sightings of Bryde’s whales. Along the way, you’ll hear about the animals’ behaviours and migration patterns, and have the chance to observe them in their natural environment rather than in captivity.
