On this small-group tour, you'll get to visit St. Peter's Basilica. Your guide will be a professional art historian who will share insight into the architecture and history of the basilica. You'll start in St. Peters Square, where you'll learn about the visual effects of its architecture as designed by Bernini. You'll then head inside the basilica to take in its golden ceilings and impressive mosaics. Your guide will talk you through Renaissance and Neoclassic masterpieces, including Michelangelo's Pietà. Next, you'll make your way to the underground grottoes and visit St. Peters's tomb, where you'll be able to touch the ancient walls of the original 4th-century basilica and admire the frescoes. You'll then have the chance to climb to the top of the Dome, where you'll be treated to a birds-eye view over the marble floors. Higher up at the top balcony, you'll take in panoramic views over Rome.
