Read moreThe best time to visit Thailand is between November and April. This is when the weather is mostly cool and dry, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture. Expect temperatures of between 21°C and 33°C, with a peak of around 37°C in April.
You can relax on one of Thailand's tranquil beaches or celebrate festivals like the romantic Loy Krathong, high-energy Songkran or vibrant Chinese New Year. It’s still winter from November to February – summer gets underway in March for most of the country. Despite the beach weather, you’ll want to pack something to wear to one of the many temples – plus clothes you’ll be happy getting soaked in the nationwide water fights during Songkran (Thai New Year). Heading to the south? Keep in mind that the Gulf coast's monsoon season is from October to April, so you’re better off visiting spots like Phuket and Krabi over on the Andaman side.

Monthly weather and travel tips for Thailand
It’s winter for most of Thailand in January, which means average temperatures of 23°C to 33°C. Chinese New Year commonly happens around this time, but it can also fall in February depending on the lunar calendar – expect vibrant parades as the Thai-Chinese population celebrates.
If you’re planning on heading to the beach, the Andaman Coast is a good choice. It’s the dry summer season here, and during Krabi’s Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon, a walk-able sand bar opens up between three islands at low tide. It’s monsoon season over in the Gulf of Thailand, especially Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. For cultural experiences, head to Chiang Mai for the Bo Sang Umbrella and San Kampheng Handicrafts Festival, which includes a parade, cultural shows and a traditional market.

In February it’s summer in the central, northeastern and southern regions of Thailand, but it’s the rainy season in the Gulf of Thailand. Temperatures across the country range between 23°C and 33°C, but it’s coolest in the north, where winter lingers on – perfect weather for the Chiang Mai Flower Festival.
There are plenty of other cultural events to experience, too. Makha Bucha Day is one of the most important Buddhist holidays of the year, with temple ceremonies and rituals around Thailand commemorating the Buddha’s famous ‘Ovada Patimokkha’ teaching. Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, depending on the lunar calendar. The King Narai Festival in central Thailand's Lopburi province honours King Narai the Great making Thailand a centre of culture, religion and diplomacy. Valentine’s Day is celebrated with a twist in the south, as just off the beautiful beaches of Trang, underwater wedding ceremonies are carried out for qualified divers.

March marks the start of summer for most of Thailand, but on the Gulf coast in the south, it’s still the rainy monsoon season – for drier weather you’ll need to head across to Phuket or Krabi on the Andaman side. Temperatures across the country are pleasant, between 25°C and 34°C, so it’s definitely beach weather.
For a cultural fix, watch the Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony in the central province of Ayutthaya, where Thai boxers honour their instructors. Foodies are in for a treat, as it’s the height of mango season in the south of Thailand. That’s also where Krabi’s Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon occurs – at low tide you can walk along a natural sand bar between Koh Kai, Koh Tup and Koh Mor islands.

By April, summer is well underway in Thailand. Visiting now means you’ll be able to take part in the famous Songkran celebrations that mark the traditional new year holiday. There’s a fun vibe at the large-scale water fights that take place in cities like Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket, while locals perform traditional rituals like visiting their hometowns and paying respect to their elders. Buddhists visit local temples to pray and make spiritual offerings, too.
Daytime temperatures can reach 37°C, but be prepared for some rain on the southern coast along the Gulf of Thailand. April is also a good time to see the Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon in Krabi province – at low tide, you can walk along a natural sand bar between Koh Kai, Koh Tup and Koh Mor islands.

Summer continues throughout May for much of Thailand, with temperatures between 24°C and 34°C. But it’s also rainy in many parts of the country – the north, northeast and central regions, and along the Andaman coast in the south – so travel options are a little more limited.
Cultural highlights this month include the ancient rituals of the Royal Ploughing Ceremony in Bangkok, which is intended to bring good fortune for the upcoming rice-planting season. Visakha Bucha Day also falls in May, when temple ceremonies commemorate three defining events in the Buddha’s life. Things go off with a bang in the northeastern Isaan region, when the Rocket Festival sees home-made projectiles fired into the sky – locals believe this will encourage rainfall and a plentiful harvest.

It’s officially the rainy season in Thailand in June, making this a less popular time to travel – but that does mean there are fewer crowds to compete with. For beach options, it’s still dry on the southern Gulf coast, including islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, where temperatures are between 24°C and 33°C. Just keep in mind that the Andaman Coast and the north, northeast and central regions are wet around this time of the year.
In the northeastern province of Loei, Phi Ta Khon – or the Ghost Festival – is a unique sight: locals dress as spirits and make religious merit in an attempt to rid the town of bad omens. If you’re a foodie, it’s the eastern province of Chanthaburi you want to head to. Countless tropical fruits are in season, including notoriously pungent durian, and there’s no better place to try them than at the Chanthaburi Fruit Festival.

In July, the monsoon continues in the north, northeast and central regions of Thailand, as well as on the Andaman Coast in the south. Temperatures remain a comfortable 24°C to 33°C, but for dry, sunny beach weather, the southern Gulf islands of Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan are where you want to be.
King Vajiralongkorn’s birthday is celebrated nationwide towards the end of the month – look out for ornate street decorations in Bangkok's old town. July also sees the Asanha Bucha religious holiday, when temple ceremonies mark the anniversary of the Buddha’s first sermon. The day after is the start of the three-month Buddhist Lent season, when monks traditionally stay within their temple and many Thai Buddhists choose to abstain from alcohol. If you’re in the northeast, look out for the Ubon Ratchathani Candle Festival, when awe-inspiring giant candles are paraded through the city’s streets.

Beach options in Thailand remain limited in August: the rainy season still isn’t letting up, and just about the only places for reliable dry weather are southern Gulf coast islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. Like the previous months, it’s still warm – between 24°C and 33°C on most days – but heavy rain is a common occurrence in the north, northeast and central regions and on the Andaman Coast down south.
The middle of August marks the birthday of Queen Dowager Sirikit, the wife of the late King Bhumibol, so you’re likely to see her portrait displayed even more prominently around the country at this time. Street decorations and ceremonies to pay respects are also likely in Bangkok's old town.

Temperatures drop ever so slightly in September, to between 24°C and 32°C, as Thailand's rainy monsoon season slowly begins to come to an end. There are still frequent downpours in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as on the Andaman Coast in the south.
If it’s sunbathing under a clear blue sky you’re looking for, Gulf coast islands like Koh Samui and Koh Tao remain your best bet at this time of year. The gradual change in weather does make it a good time to visit the northern and central regions for a glimpse of the photogenic sea of mist from the top of some of Thailand's most scenic peaks. Doi Inthanon in Chiang Mai and Khao Krajom in Ratchaburi are both good options.

It’s the last month of Thailand's long-running rainy season, but also one of the hardest months to find somewhere with reliably sunny weather. Temperatures range from 23°C to 31°C, but it’s rainy in the north, northeast and central regions, and also on southern Thailand's Gulf coast, including islands like Koh Samui, Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.
The drier, sunnier weather gets underway in Andaman coastal destinations such as Krabi and Phuket, but it’s still a bit hit and miss this month. The annual Vegetarian Festival is another reason to visit Phuket, though – it’s at its most colourful here, with a parade of spiritual sacrifices. The festival is also big in Bangkok: look out for yellow flags on street stalls selling vegan food. It’s still a good time to see the sea of mist in the northern and central regions, too.

Winter is underway at last come November, with temperatures dropping to between 22°C and 30°C around the country. The weather is generally dry and the skies clear in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as on the south's Andaman Coast. But that means it’s time for the Gulf coast to have its rainy stint, so islands like Koh Samui and Koh Tao aren’t great for sunbathing right now.
Loy Krathong is November's cultural highlight: perhaps Thailand's most picturesque festival of all, it involves locals paying respect to the goddess of the waters by floating intricately decorated floral rafts on canals and rivers. It coincides with the Yi Peng festival in Chiang Mai, when thousands of paper lanterns are released in an incredible nighttime display. And in Lopburi, a special, large-scale feast is laid on for the city’s enormous monkey population to give thanks for the apes’ contribution to the tourism industry.

December is the coolest month in Thailand's calendar, with refreshing temperatures ranging from 21°C to 29°C. You can expect dry, breezy weather and bright blue skies just about everywhere around the country except for the Gulf coast in the south, where the local monsoon season is underway.
This time of year is prime beach holiday season in Thailand, and spots like Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi are among the best options. If you’re in Krabi, you might even be able to catch the Talay Waek or ‘divided sea’ phenomenon, when a walkable sand bar connects three islands at low tide. The late King Bhumibol’s birthday is also marked at the beginning of December – you’ll see gatherings of varying sizes around Thailand, and particularly large-scale street decorations and ceremonies in Bangkok's old town.

You’ll find the best weather in Thailand between November and April in the north, northeast and central regions, as well as along the Andaman Coast in the south. Temperatures range from 21°C to 37°C overall, but things are at their coolest in December and begin heating up as April approaches. The only part of Thailand where the weather isn’t great between November and April is the Gulf coast in the south, which is in the middle of its rainy season – that rules out islands like Koh Samui if you’re planning to spend time on the beach.

Place is very chill with heavy mist n clouds.super cold but still good to ride around.good food n shopping
A great place to visit. Lots of great food and things to see. I don't think its much of a party city if that is what you are looking for. It is a place to relax or go outside the city for adventure. We needed more time to take day trips and do the fun stuff outside the city. Families can find things to do, but kids might get bored.
Your in Thailand!! Whats not to Love? Absolutely Paradise...Most awsome ppl on planet.
Last minute booking. Hotel exactly as advertise. Very clean, safe , cool air...I booked a bed in room. shared facilities... quite neighborhood. Small cafe and bar...limited menu. Prices slightly higher than average. Food and service excellent. Staff great and helpful. Room walls and doors very thin. No windows to rooms. If you cough sneeze or other body functions, everybody will hear it.😆 overall yes good would stay again for the price I paid
A good experience to stay in Pattaya only problem to rent a car or moter bike because they not trust on British,Indian,Europe,American driving license and they want to be international certified license few people have experience with all formality local police are forcing to tourists to pay penalties with fake excuses
A beautiful little island accessible only by boat. No cars or motorcycles are allowed to enter so the best thing to get around is on foot, by rented motorcycles or a taxi. Beautiful beaches, great accommodations.
Koh Kood is very nice. The beaches are lovely. There is a lot going on, many people and bikes constantly going up and down the roads. It is fun to snorkel, hang out on the beaches, kayak and go to the waterfalls. Very nice!
Koh Mak is wonderful! It is still quiet and peaceful, easy to navigate through town and from one beach to another. You can truly relax and rest.
First trip to Thailand, we wanted a beach experience, but away from the huge crowds at Phuket that we'd heard about. We learned about the Full Moon Festivals held monthly on this island, and others nearby. We also knew the show "White Lotus" was partly filmed in Koh Samui, so we wanted to give it a try. We booked 4 nights at a private Villa with a private pool a few minutes walk from Lamai Beach, and we learned 4 nights was not enough. We can't wait to go back!!
Park is amazing - lake is staggeringly beautiful, the park is full of wildlife and the range of options for activities is very broad - trekking, cooking class, elephant experience, canoeing, etc. It's very big - takes an hour to get from the village to the pier for the lake. But it's worth it!
Great access to watersport activities. Easy access to food and drink. Chairs always available (with a fee). Plenty of things to see within a short distance if you want a break from the sun.
Great food, plenty of activities and culture the affordability is unmatched. Plus it's close proximity to other cities and ability to travel between cities at highly affordable prices
It is one of my favourite places. My second time back. The ppl are lovely and the sites are beautiful.
Bangkok will continue to be a great travel destination for many years to come.
We had a wonderful trip to Bangkok and truly enjoyed every minute . The Hotel was spectacular.
if the Thai could speak average English ... they could beat the shit out of Singapore ... the street food capital of the world.... pacifist Buddhism
Love it. From the cute foods to the people. I love how expressive they're generally with everything food , their clothes & how they mind their business, never staring ( I'm African btw) . Before I go Bangkok is cheap. I suggest you don't carry anything & buy everything there. It's a shopper's paradise truly.
Friday night market in Boat Avenue was great! We ate lots of delicious foods and this was our favourite night market that we have visited in Asia. Bang Tao beach is clean and in close proximity to other beaches as well.
A place that I would come again in terms of worshipping, dining & shopping and relaxing spa treatments.
Awesome place to eat, explore and relax. Love the steamy weather and friendly culture.
Patong Beach itself is beautiful, recommend hiring a sun lounger and watching the world go by with a cold drink. The area it is in, including Bangla Road and the entire beachfront strip is busy and a bit hectic, most of the time. There are some good restaurants if you know where to look but there are also incredibly noisy bars, loads of street touts and at night it can all be a bit overwhelming.
The price of the room was reasonable for the place.
The beach was cleaner than some of the other beaches we visited. It has good activities and plenty of chooses of food/drinks.
If your hotel is near the airport, Go to the airport for a bus ride instead of paying expensive taxis or Uber. Places to go: Buddhist temples JJ Mall JJ Night market Robinson lifestyle mall It Park
Amazing. Don't hesitate - just go! We are not party or shopping people and so this island was perfect - quiet, calm, local vibe, easy to explore by scooter, beautiful natural beaches that are so lovely to swim in. Friendly warm locals and wonderful littles restaurants and cafes throughout the whole island.
Very nice and white sand beach. Swim, make friends, eat well, all in one place.
Would definitely come back to try more tom yum and phad thai
Quiet suburb of Pattaya just 10-15 minutes away, safe yet with many bars restaurants Nice beach and community, a yearly return place for sure
Bangkok is a lovely city with lovely and welcoming people. The security is very assuring in all places. Prices for tourists are very affordable for visiting, foods and entertainments. It could be because of the season (June is one of sale months in bangkok) prices of items were so affordable that we had to buy extra suitcase.
Great country with welcoming and friendly people .
Incredible views, scuba diving , secluded coves for snorkel and swimming!
If your going for great night life, drinking and parying, Pattaya is for you. Other experiences were limited.
Ancient mountain city of Thailand containing many cultural treasures abd markets. Be careful what time of year you go as you should a hide Smokey season from Feb 15-May 15 November and December are the best months
It was very peaceful, but hot as we went in April. Night walking was the best and unfortunately jellyfish were too active in April so I would plan on visiting at other times of year that are cooler. Island people very friendly. Great place for low key Xpats. Also great for young families. No cars on the island so plan on walking everywhere. We enjoyed our 3 day stay there.
Great food, lovely people and lots of shopping options. The traffic jam is a bit annoying sometimes.
A nice place to visit and you will never feel long enough to stay there.
Quiet but nice view. It is best for people to relax
We lived in Bangkok for 4 years, so we love the city and things to do. We spent two trips upcountry and one week in Japan on a 5 day Thai tour, played golf 6 times. The quality of golf courses are excellent. It is an all day affair since most golf courses are one hour drive out of Bangkok
Amazing food, friendly people. Although it was VERY hot, the town is easily walkable. Still about 300 stalls and restaurants we need to explore, as well as night markets
Choeng Mon beach was close and had lovely sand . It was one of the best beaches visited
Easy walk from hotel to beach. Great sunset and surfing. Vendors for easy food.
Great location. Easy walk to the beach for surfing. Nice pools on resort property. Breakfast amazing!! Fresh eggs to order, fresh crepes, coffee and Thai tea made just for you. Loved it!!
Town is quiet at first and then for 4 or 5 days during Full Moon it's really busy. There's all night parties all over the island, like 5 or 6 per day all week. Beach is great, some good food options, town is chill, and ferry straight to Samui is easy.
Very nice location and property for price. Wish I stayed here longer rather than changing to Chaweng regent, which wasn’t nearly as enjoyable as a stay. Highly recommend
Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur is the Best city in south east asia. And among the best city in the world
I love Bangkok and wish i could have stayed a little longer , make sure to go on a few Tours to show you a few things about Bangkok
A terrific way to experience the incredible Thai culture and cuisine
Best place to hop around and enjoy the rustic and pristine islands nearby. Do go for a longtail boat ride: crystal-clear waters teeming with vibrant marine life! We went on an island trip + sunset longtail boat ride and it was amazing! No cars allows so air is clean and everything is so quiet at night, especially if you are not near the beach where there are some restaurants pumping up the beat.
Out of all the beaches we visited and stayed on, Bophut was - by far - the best. Clean, pretty, and pleasant to stroll on. Fisherman's Village is on the beach and a great place to grab lunch, dinner, or shop. Bophut is a great beach to visit and stay on.
Jomtien Beach is cleaner and quieter and not crowded like Pattaya Beach
Easy to get around. Currency rate so much different from the dollar, watch how you computer purchases. Watch out for those Tuk Tuks, riding around is an adventure! Understand that if you hire them to take you around, they will have a discounted fuel coupon that they need to have credit for from a couple or more businesses around Bangkok. You're not required to buy anything, but sometimes the deals are just too good to pass up.
Wonderful vacation!!! Highly recommend! 😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
This is an amazing city that should not be missed. It’s full of some of the most wonderful people, food and nightlife you will ever find. There are so many sites to see you will never complete them in one trip, or even 10 trips. And it’s all reasonable priced. The sky bars are a must see as are the temples.
Sunsets by the beach are a must. I can't get enough of it, so pretty. I recommend having dinner by the beach and watching the sun go down the sea. that's my fav moment of the day
Love OLD TOWN Good shopping and wonderful colourful history Stunning temples and lots to do really within easy access
Lovely beach to take long walks on Many bars and restaurants along rhe beach to stop and eat and ore have a drink Great sunsets
Need ask which time of the year is good for swimming
Bangkok is an exotic place with very good culture. It's easy to navigate the area and the people are nice. Food and accommodation are very affordable. Highly recommended for those who prefer some culture-rich experience
Bangkok is a vibe….we loved every minute of our stay here….its very walkable and the people are amazing. The food is incredible and the history is rich….
There are many things to do here if you want to relax by the beach and get some inexpensive street food. Go to a restaurant or bar with live music or travel to other nearby areas to explore.
Amazing Thailand. It's easy to see why Mu Si is so popular with Thais. This is a very special place in an super location.
Incredibly busy over New Year so I wouldn't recommend coming then. Restaurants are full and the markets are packed.
Great beach! Love the location. Lots of longtail boats to get around. Short ride to the night market.
Metro city , best for window shopping, feel the Thai culture and taste delicious thai cuisine 🤩 Best and Safe Night Life , very friendly atmosphere everywhere and people are very nice and helpful
Phuket is an excellent place for all age groups. It has the best of everything. Good Environment, stunning Sunsets on west side beaches, Low Pollution, Helpful People, Beautiful beaches city, I love Phuket.
one of my favorite things in thailand is snorkling in a boat. there are a lot of options, very nice for kids ... most offers a 1 day tour from 8:00 to 16:00 , the boat contains all the equipment and nice stuff that helps you and the kids. the boat stops in few islands, every time you get about 30-60 min of snorkling with beautifull fish . the crue also help the kids and take you to see special things. kids was in a high for the whole day
nice place with hot springs, its amazing to go there early in the morning when its quite cold outside ... nothing is better than a hot water for your body. we like it and the kids also enjoy
