But no problem, get a porter or directions when you get off the ferry. It is a lovely walk as the island is so small and you walk through its beauty including past the Museum of Slaves. But the best part is when you get to the hotel. The hotel is built along the outside of old colonial walls - really interesting. And a quick path from the hotel to walk along the ocean and amongst basalt columns. If we hadn't stayed at this hotel, we would have definitely missed this unique geographical feature. We went to the island for the same reason everyone else goes, the Museum of Slaves and other architecture, but this was an unexpected bonus. We enjoyed it the way we did Iceland's basalt and Ireland's Giant's Causeway. The history of the island overshadows mentioning this in any literature that I am aware of. The owner is a very kind and hospitable host. She is a most impressive woman who is continually building her gardens and property. The gardener is a lovely man too and also one of the island's painters. This place with its lovely people and uniqueness beats any fancy 5 star corporate hotel.

The staff and management were amazing. Very welcoming and ready to help when needed. The security was always present and helped with taxis and loading luggage. The whole building was spotless and well taken care of. I had a refrigerator issue that was taken care of quickly.

Fresh made omelet, orange juice, fresh crusty baguette; other breads, danish, cheese, carafe of hot coffee, etc. The whole experience was very different and so much better than what I am used to. I am used to staying in 4 and 5 star hotels but this villa experience is more like a luxury bed & breakfast. The food is absolutely gourmet and excellent. The decor in the whole villa and the room is combination of African and French tastes. Whomever did the exterior and interior design has great taste and vision. The location of the villa is quite far from Dakar and in a rather remote area which is a pleasant departure from a city atmosphere. Very tranquil and I slept so well in a very comfortable bed. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The villa also provided transportation to and from the airport at a very reasonable price. The driver, Michel, is a very good driver, efficient and prompt. I cannot say enough good things about Villa Chanalu.

We always come here - it has become our second home in Cap Skirring. I can only recommend it. Restaurants are on the beach and home delivery of food is available. The roof terrace is the best, access to beach approx. 200 meters. For this price its just genious. Rooms are clean, big and the internet is very fast. Take a room with a balcony it available.
