Where do I start? I liked...no, I loved every minute of my stay at Maqai. It is as close to paradise as I'll allow my pragmatic mind to entertain. From the relative remoteness to the natural beauty, the super-relaxed atmosphere to the genuine warmth of the staff, this is a very special place. More of a traveller vibe than that of the well-worn tourist path of the islands closer to Nadi. Slightly rustic? Sure, but only in the best possible way. Cathy (manager) ran as tight a ship as possible on a tropical island in the Pacific. She was welcoming and prompt with her email replies to my questions regarding all the various water sports and cultural experiences on the island. In no particular order, the following staff members quickly began to feel like old friends...Navo, Etta, Sala, Emosi, Soni, Tui, Junior, Jale, Johnny, Mama's Soke & Luce, Netta and Suki (four legged and furry). They all exude such an authentically friendly yet service oriented approach to their individual roles. I can't speak highly enough of how they looked after me. It is up to you how much or how little activity you schedule into your day on Qamea. Highlights included surf trips to the outer reefs, snorkelling and lunch on the Island Tour, the Sunday morning village visits and church service, and the food. Crikey, the food. I had to ask for slightly less portions by dinner time, or I would have no room left for evening kava with the locals! If you're reading this review and considering/comparing it with other options in Fiji, fair enough, but I honestly feel it is a rare and rich experience worth every cent and the added travel time to get there. Excellent resort, so glad we stayed here. The facilities were fantastic with great activities. The staff were so welcoming & kind. Breakfast & lunch were tasty with lots of options. Really enjoyed the snorkeling trip & excursion to the nearest village. The live music every evening really added to the fantastic atmosphere. Hoping to come back one day. Highly recommend for anyone considering a trip to Fiji.

First Landing is a 3-star resort, located directly on a sandy beach and offering beautiful views of the nearby Mamanuca Islands. The grounds of this hotel are a paradise and the staff impart joy on visitors with every interaction.

Crusoe’s Retreat is a small boutique-style property situated on Fiji’s famous Coral Coast. This small resort offers bungalow accommodation surrounded by tropical gardens and white sandy beaches. I’m very happy to meet Ratu!
