Surrounded by lush forestry and the Austrian Alps, the picturesque and cosmopolitan city of Graz offers pretty Renaissance courtyards, diverse architecture, a charming and historic old town, along with winding Mur River which runs through the heart of the city.
Graz’s vast history and architecture is on show beyond the fortified Old Town which is lined with cobblestoned streets, red rooftops, medieval houses, and famous landmarks such as Graz Clock Tower, Kunsthaus Graz, Graz Opera House and the 15th-century Burg.

Graz is a buzzing and vibrant historic city that we have visited before, On this occasion we were just stopping overnight on our journey back to UK so the quiet hotel " in the woods" up in the hills was ideal for that. Styria is a very beautiful region of Austria and Graz as its capital is a real gem. I really like the leisure atmosphere of the city - part austrian, part slovenian, part italian. The cuisine is also very nice - I would recommend except of some austrian clasics like Wiener Schnitzel or Sacher torte, styrian specialties from pumpkin or pork meat and regional wines - they are excellent. Some recommendations - Kunsthaus café (friday / saturday evening), Der Steirer (lunch), Martin Auer bakery at Main square / Hauptplatz (breakfast), May Kay (snack / cheap lunch). Regarding the momuments in the city, I would recommend Uhrturm, Schlossberg museum and Landeszeughaus. The city surroundings also offer many opportunities like cable car to Schockl, Austrian open air museum of hiking in Bärenschutzklamm for the brave ones. If you like the exploring the city, I would recommend to buy a Graz card. If you like explore city and its surroundings, I would recommend also to buy a Styrian leisure time tickets - it cost 13 euro and its valid for 24 hours for all buses, trams a regional trains in Styria. We spent 5 hours at Eggenberg Palace. A year ago I had never even heard of it. Amazing art collection in addition to archeology, gardens and the palace rooms!
