We were traveling for two weeks staying in beautiful old style hotels in Italy and Switzerland. Our stay in Arte Hotel in Salzburg was on our way to Vienna, and, o God, how much we enjoyed the comfort of a modern hotel! Cleanliness, comfort, nice beds, sharp linens, spa, breakfast with a wonderful view of the Alps, everything was excellent!

FAQs about hotels in Salzburg

The Hills Are Alive in Salzburg

Made famous for its “hills alive with the sound of music”, Salzburg is a very pretty town filled with romantic buildings and squares. If you are not yet aware that Mozart was born here, then you will be as soon as you land at Salzburg W.A. Mozart International Airport.

Further your education about this musical prodigy at his actual birthplace, Mozarts Geburtshaus. The city is the namesake of the Salzach River which runs through it, and alongside this beautiful river lays the Schloss Mirabell, one of the many impressive castles within the city limits. Schloss Mirabell and Hellbrunn with their picturesque gardens, beautiful galleries and impressive halls make the ideal spot for a picnic during summer.

The white-stone Hohensalzburg fortress is perched upon a green hill and offers magnificent views over the city. Or, you can escape it all in the Kapuzinerberg forest, which offers splendid Alpine vistas- a reminder of Salzburg’s natural beauty.

The shopping centre focuses around Alter Markt Square and Getreidegasse, the latter is a quirky street with old-fashioned signs indicating what each store sells. With 125 hotels and guesthouses available on Booking.com, your stay in Salzburg is bound to be as pleasant as this city is pretty.

I had such a great time in Salzburg!

I had such a great time in Salzburg! Spent a full month there and there’s honestly so much to do. I loved how much trust people have in each other—it’s beautiful to see that still exists. No matter the weather, it’s a great city: sunny days are perfect for strolling through the streets, and on rainy days you can relax with a nice coffee in one of the many cozy cafés. The Eagle’s Nest is an absolute must-visit. Even if you’re not into history, the views alone are breathtaking, and you get a fantastic look over Salzburg too. Shopping is great—there are plenty of stores and you can find pretty much anything you need. Public transport is also amazing. There’s a bus pretty much every 15 minutes, and as long as you check Google Maps you’ll have no trouble getting around. People are also very friendly and happy to help if you need directions. The food is excellent as well. I mostly enjoyed German and Austrian dishes, but if that’s not your thing, there are plenty of other options. From Italian to Turkish and everything in between, Salzburg has something for everyone. The city is super clean; I barely saw any trash anywhere. Salzburg has officially become my number one holiday destination. Next time, I’m bringing my girlfriend!

A pictuesque city with lots of history, good eating places and heaps of cultural activities. You can opt for the Sound of Music or Mozart or both ! Public transport within the city is good with free travel for tourists. Can easily visit places outside Salzburg with little trouble. There is not the hustle and bustle of Vienna but a calmer more relaxed experience.

We started off the first day with a walking tour which gave us a good insight into the city and the surrounding areas. We did further walking around the city and visited the Eagles Nest, which was a short bus trip away. I would also recomment the Berg or fort at the top of the hill, but allow at least a few hours as there is a lot to see up there and the view is fantastic

    Good city to explore.

Good city to explore. Whether you like Salzburg or not really depends on your interest, itinerary, mode of transport and how far you would like to travel around this city. Assuming you are here only within the city I think 2 days is ok for a family vacation

Our aim was the Old Town area and it did not disappoint.

Our aim was the Old Town area and it did not disappoint. We started the day with a walk in colourful Mirabell Gardens and listened to the free concert - it was a Sunday so the Palace was closed but there was an orchestra playing at 10.30. We crossed the pedestrian bridge and mooched the market along the river - lots of hand made or good quality items. Then into the old town itself to explore - Mozart's house, the Cathedral, up to the Fortress and Nonnburg etc. It is easily walkable and a small area, although you can clock up the miles looking down each alley. There are lots of gelateria's and as it was over 30 degrees we had 4 ice-creams during the day... We also stopped at the roof terrace bar of the Stein Hotel for a drink and view across to the Fortress and over the old town. A perfect location for a weekend break - and I would also include a trip to Konigsee (840 bus) as it is absolutely stunning

This was a superb hotel. Great value, the facilities were excellent Staff were all helpful and friendly, evening arranging a birthday breakfast for my partner. Location was a 10 minute walk from the main old town which is across the river. This area is still historic however with lots of shops - my partner was delighted our room overlooked the grave of Mozart's father and wife! All in all we had a great time in Salzburg and a lot of this was down to the hotel. Overall highly recommended.

Salzburg is expensive but hotel is relatively good value for money. It's a short walk into the old town through the lovely Mirabell gardens. The room was comfortable and clean, the staff were helpful and the bar is a nice space. The sauna was a welcome bonus after a day out in the rain!.
