A great little town. Plenty to see and do. Interesting shops as well as the usual supermarkets. There was a variety of playgrounds and a water park at the swimming pool. Easy to drive around to see what was happening. Great cafe for lunch and plenty to choose for an evening meal.

Ayr is a bustling sugar cane township, with 4 sugar mills in the region. There is a large number of women's dress shops, variety stores, opportunity and secondhand stores, large supermarkets, car sales yards, agricultural machinery suppliers, and more!!
The township has a primary school and secondary schools, and a large infrastructure for a large agricultural community. Ayr is close to a large major city, Townsville, and has very attractive beaches and tourist attractions within the region.

When travelling to Ayr you must stay at the Tropical Motor Inn. The people are so friendly and kind. They help you with anything you need and are always there if you need anything. The food is amazing in the adjoining restaurant. I can recommend Ayr or the Tropical Motor in highly enough.

Ayr is a small town in the Burdekin and has lots of history along with Home just down the road.
Although my visit was for work I always try and eat at a different place but coffee and breakfast is always at Del Santo's Deli on the corner of MacMillian and Parker Street.
The Parkside is ideally situated one block from Ayr's main street, but it remains a very quiet spot. Although an old-style motel, our room had recently been re-vamped in simple, neutral colours and it was spotlessly clean as well as comfortable. The bathroom was well-planned with good bench space and gentle 'rain head' shower. An Air-conditioning unit and ceiling fan ensured a cool room in this tropical setting. Enjoyed dinner in the attached restaurant. Brad and Helen were friendly and helpful hosts.
- Conveniently located at the start of Ayr's main street, easy to get access to restaurants (Maccas, red rooster and KFC available at less than 5min walk)
- Staff was very welcoming and helpful, which was refreshing compared to most accommodations in Australia
- Clean and tidy
- You can park right in front of your room, convenient for luggages even if not the most glamorous view when you leave your room
- Bathroom packed with good products
Bed was very comfortable, lovely fresh sheets, good airconditioning, I loved that there was also a fan. Water in the fridge was a wonderful bonus. I would recommend to anyone and would definitely stay again if I ever need to stay in Ayr.
The owner was amazingly nice, the cleaner was very helpful providing us with a new matt, room is very cute and had everything we needed. Anything we didn't like wasn't that's bad and we will stay again when we visit family in Ayr.
