This was quite a strange stay. Attempting to check in at 5pm, we found right next to the sign stating reception was open from 8am - 8pm, another saying reception was closed and we should call for assistance. Then another intending guest appeared, having a very focused conversation with the missing reception staff about why they were absent, and that he'd waited 20 minutes for them to arrive, after being told it would be 2 minutes. He eventually left in high dudgeon and the reception staff soon appeared - and walked straight past my wife, without a word of apology or explanation, before taking up position behind the desk.
The rooms themselves are very large, and well back from the highway frontage. However, the layout is a little bizarre: A fairly functional kitchenette probably once housed the table and chairs now found in the entrance way. No longer - a large spa bath has taken their spot - just adjacent the sink and benches! Why is it not in the quite large bathroom, say where the double shower is found??
The bed was enormous and unusually comfy, and there was a quiet and modern split system to provide heating (needed due to limited bedcovers and no electric blankets. Conversely, it featured only 1 bedside lamp.
On checkout around 9am, we again found the sign at reception indicating that no-one was available. However, a key box was an adequate substitute.
Overall, I'm surprised that the Quality Inn people haven't had a word to the hosts. They don't seem to be naturals at hospitality.

Room was good. Not sure if it was that cheap but I didn't really shop around.

We were just passing through but there is so much to see so will definitely return. A ride on the vintage tram showed us much of what Bendigo had to offer. Would highly recommend lunch or at least a coffee at Whitby at Lake Weeroona.

My favourite place in Bendigo is the Art Gallery.
My favourite place in Bendigo is the Art Gallery. I've visited several times (not this time). It has the largest public collection of any inland city in Australia. The permanent indigenous collection is superb. The current temporary exhibition of a retrospective of a male artist (I can't remember his name), who grew up in Melbourne, but now lives in Castlemaine. He makes an excellent critique of modern Melbourne life. every picture is accessible and funny. I laughed at each painting.
The public gardens are beautiful.
There is a large second hand bookshop which I've visited, and would like to spend more time in.
There are atmospheric cafes and wine bars that I'd like to sample.
In all, an excellent city.

Loved the space, quietude, polite drivers, no major traffic issues, friendly inhabitants, heritage, arts district. I found some really great cafes dog friendly and full of character. Found parking in the CBD Coles car park convenient for free parking with easy access to best CBD has to offer. Coming from Sydney I was chuffed there was Endotta Spa, Blue Illusion, Katmandu to name a few I wasn’t expecting to find necessarily. Apart from walking CBD easily I had to drive everywhere else for quick and easy movement between areas.

Beautiful and historic.
Beautiful and historic. Some magnificent old-style houses in hidden-away streets, beautifully restored. One had the most perfect hedge I have seen anywhere! Great food (I recommend Lake View Hotel on McCrae St). The nearby Lake Eppalock is serene.

The friendliness of the locals was just amazing.
The friendliness of the locals was just amazing. Has an exceptional art gallery and many historic buildings that are well worth a visit. The historic tram trip is a good start to get orientated to the city. Our trip was too short suggest staying more than 2 nights to enjoy the sights.

Although we have been previously we only spent a day there this time and there is so much to do and see there we should have stayed a week.
The Chinese museum and garden is a must see.
There are many restaurants and Bars in town.
Sundays are very quiet so skip that day unless your booked in to a theater show which they seem to have all the time.
The gold mine is really worth seeing and a tram ride is a must.
They often have special events. during our stay Bendigo put on a light show in the Gardens and they had a Paris exhibition both of which we missed due to time.
Old churches galore and if you a collector there are a lot of Antique shops in town

Thank you so much Jenny for a beautiful apartment hotel it's was very clean, close to where we going to ,bed very comfortable everything was perfect for us we loved staying in this apartment and hope in the future that we book for Abode Bendigo Apartment again
Thanks again Jenny and Abode Bendigo Apartment
What a lovely old hotel! We stayed here after staying in new apartments in Melbourne and it was so nice to be in an old fashioned hotel. Stunning building with really beautiful stained glass everywhere. Meals were also superb in the pub downstairs. Can't wait to stay again.
The password lock on each door was good, never seen that before in a house turned airbnb. Usually only in hotels/motels where all rooms have separate keys/key card. It gave a sense of security that our things are safe.
