Cairns is a beautiful city with friendly locals. My wife and I left very comfortable during our stay. The city has a vibrant lifestyle with gorgeous beaches close by and some beautiful food outlets within a short walking distance. Dundee on the Waterfront is highly recommended. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in Cairns.

Great base for coral reef and trips up north with a car.

Cairns is a nice compact size with lots of quality eating options and esplanade feature with a safe easy going feel, but limited other entertainment things to do. Shopping centre but quite basic shops.
People were friendly, easy car parking but limited transport facilities other than taxes.

Cairns has beautiful tours and places to visit but quite expensive, I only booked things a day in advance so all the good deals were taken. I caught the Fitzroy flyer to fitzroy island. Which I think is best if you really want to explore Fitzroy in a day, this has the longest onsite time. GBR tours I did Dreamtime Snorkel, hard to hear some of the information over the sound of the boat and other chatter. Food was delicious and the sites were amazing, though luck of the draw if you’ll see anything truly spectacular on the snorkel safari. Rusty’s supermarket is well worth going for their tropical fruits, they’re open fri-Sunday mornings, fresh and exotic fruits, mmmmm…. Arts centres were free, I went to two in town and one at Tank 4 very interesting pieces. There’s still a lot more that I want to do. But I’m leaving that for next time. FYI no croc encounters (thank god) but I did spot, 2 reef sharks, tree snake, a lot of lizards, a goana, stingrays and large spiders on the island and around cairns. Keep it spicy!

Cairns is too loaded towards expensive experiences.
Cairns is too loaded towards expensive experiences.
There is a lack of catering to the public access especially to trinity bay waterfront areas which are taken up by marinas and port infrastructure. Access for shore fishing experiences are ridiculously restricted to a couple of locations causing locals and those not wanting to shell out a fortune to wander about aimlessly. Cairns Council should be providing a lot more access to Trinity Estuary for recreational fishing by the general public from the shore or by providing a lot more wharf opportunities!
The cheap buses are a plus however it’s too hard to get to the sky rail, artillery museum etc as no bus on weekends and scant services during the week.

Amazing tropical Cairns, we loved it. stayed for 6 days, it was not enough. Lots of views, waterfalls where you can swim too. Amazing trails, dense lush green rain forest and surrounded by few islands to visit. Visit Kuranda, Atherton tablelands area, disappointed with Reef even though we went to outer reef, we could not see those colors as it was washed away. Fitzroy Island was great. Botanic granden is a must do. We found some good local shops at Kuranda, so did shopping there, good choices.

My last visit was in 2016 and upon my return now in 2024 if found an even lovelier Cairns!
Can’t recommend Prawn Star strongly enough! Sit on deck with a cold prawn star beer and enjoy the scrumptious seafood! Very friendly staff.
The other go to: eat at the roti shack: tasty Caribbean style food.
The salt house for a drink and their pizza's are tasty, great vibe and lounging on the benches often with a dj playing.
Use the bus to go to Palm Cove or Port Douglas… it’s amazingly cheap ($1 round trip to palm cove) beautiful places and beaches.
I took a half day trip to Green Island and it was alright…. Nice beach but not the best place for snorkelling.
Cairns Art Gallery: good exhibition and lovely building, could’ve bought everything in the gift shop and fairly priced. Entrance to the gallery is free btw!

Well-equipped room, with kitchenette and in-room laundry facilities. The room was very quiet, and the hotel is located on the fringe of the CBD. Esplanade, Cairns Central and CBD shopping and dining are all within easy walking distance. The room was very clean, and the staff knowledgeable and helpful.
The location of the hotel was perfect, so close to Cairns centre, the marina and the Esplanade.
The beds are soooo comfy!! Slept better than ever every night.
The staff were so friendly, so eager to please and help.
Beautiful view from my room balcony of the pool area and Cairns Esplanade/ocean. My bed was comfortable, bathroom was big, and the hotel is a close walk to all the essentials. You can also smoke on the balcony.
A great family-friendly resort. The pool was the highlight. The room was relatively clean. Great location with a 10 minute drive to the Cairns City, Esplanade and Night Markets. Good value for money
